Bottle Introduction

I'm going back to work 2 weeks from Monday (boo!) and am EBFing. Our son will be a month old on Monday. I'm not sure how to introduce the bottle, when to pump, how many ounces to offer, etc. So, if you EBF and went back to work, tell me about how you introduced the bottle and your schedule of actual nursing versus bottled BM. With actual nursing its easy, because I just put him to the breast whenever he's hungry (typically every 2-4 hours at night and every 1-3 hours during the day), but I've never pumped before so I don't know how to introduce the bottle to him and what schedule I should be on, specifically while I'm still home on maternity leave, how many bottles we should give him a day to get him used to the bottle vs the actual breast and how many ounces I should offer him how far apart. Then, when I go back to work, not sure what type of pumping schedule I should be on vs. actual nursing, how many ounces I'll need to leave for daycare, etc. I'm a first time mom, so this is all new to me. Any advice from other breastfeeding working moms would be extremely helpful. TIA

Re: Bottle Introduction

  • I was totally just about to post this same question. I know once you introduce it, you should keep it up, not just do it every now and then. I am wondering, does this mean you should do it every day? Or could we just do it like 2 days a week and she will stay used to it?

  • I'm wondering the same thing. We just tried introducing the bottle this week and he refuses it. Yesterday my husband tried while I left the house for a few hours and he said he didn't want it at first but then ate some of it. As soon as I walked in the door ds was ready to bf. I'm thinking we are going to keep trying 1x a day and have dh do it until he gets use to it.
