Don't worry...I'm sure he stopped just a few minutes after you left! F started crying out of the blue recently and it broke my heart too, but they say he always stops soon after.
I was a daycare worker/preschool teacher in a former life, and it's true - they always stop within a couple minutes after mommy/daddy leaves, once they see their friends and start playing with al the toys, etc. I promise you, H has forgotten all about it already!

Isn't now the time they get separation anxiety? If I am in the room with Matt but someone other than DH, his nanny, or I are holding him, Matt freaks out. About 30 seconds after I leave the room Matt is fine.
It is horrible to leave as he is crying but I have actually seen him be happy once I leave the room.

Me too! I worked at a DC and that was one universal truth. No matter how upset they are, they really do get distracted by the other kids and get over it very quickly.
He's just hit that age. Don't worry -- they quickly stop once you leave. He just recognized you were leaving. It's okay. FWIW, that'll go off and on until about 2.5, if DD is any measure. I always kept our departures brief and light-hearted. She is uber casual about me leaving now.
Thanks guys! I am sure it was seperation anxiety but there is a little voice nagging me saying he doesn't like the new room he is in. Remember I mentioned last week he is no longer with the older kids because they are in a "pretoddler room"? But thats the emotional side. The rational side knows it is probably seperation anxiety.
Re: H cried when I dropped him off at DC this morning
Aw...big hugs!

Hugs though. I'm sure it feels terrible for you.

He might have the added anxiety about it being different than what he's used to, that's true! I'm sure it'll pass!
*hugs*
