  • Yes that is CRAZY!  I have a cousin who made a FB profile for her son when he was 3 months old.  But then again, my cousin was only 16 when she had this baby...so that explains the immaturity.

  • My 9 year old wants one! I quickly told her no, and of course her first response was "all my friends have one". I finally got to pull out the old "if your friends jumped off a bridge would you do it?" I've been waiting to use that since she was born! LOL

  • I know of some 7 year olds who have FB profiles.

    YUCK.

My kids are staying away from FB and any other social site until they are 15.

  • My 11 year old neice (5th grade) and a bunch of her friends have one. She ALWAYS wants to be on and its sad, I think she is too young to be online. In my opinion she should be outside playing, using her imagination..things like that. Instead shes on the laptop more often than not and gets really pissy when shes told to get off.

  • I teach fourth grade and I got friend requests from about 15 of my students!  Needless to say I made sure my wall and everything else is only available to friends.  I can't believe their parents made the accounts for them!
  • My step fathers sister is a raging lunatic and one of her daughters (4th grade) have now been adopted by my parents and the other (7th grade) by my step fathers mom and dad. They have facebooks which are monitored by both my grandparents and parents. They use it to keep in touch with each other (were about 1 1/2 hour away) and they play the farmville games, etc on there. It's a nice way for the two to be able to communicate and play. I'm not sure about the other girl, but my parents keep the username and password so that she isn't on there all of the time.

  • Yes, that is too young. You have to be 13 according to FB rules and I think parents do a disservice to kids when they tell them it is ok to break rules simply because you don't  like them.

I teach third grade but thankfully I haven't received friend requests from my students yet! I do get emails from a couple of them (I gave them my personal email for the summer) but I love staying in touch with some of them. When they ask me if I have a fb I respond with, "What's that?" even though I'm the self-proclaimed fb addict to my real friends.

  • I'm disappointed too, I thought this might be the good drama for the day! Now I'm bummed :(

I'm hoping by the time our daughter is old enough for something like this, (I'm thinking age 18) they won't even exist anymore! Maybe talking to people on the phone and writing letters will go back in style! haha

  • Hey why not, i have 2 friends who made facebook profiles for their dogs.. no joke!

  • My 10yo stepson has a FB account.  So does his 7yo sister.

I hate it.  When he asked me to set it up for him, I refused.  He got his birth mom to do it.

Good luck with this one!  I teach middle schoolers- most of their parents swear up and down that their kids do not have FB profiles and are not allowed to get one until they are in HS but it is AMAZING how many of them ask if I have a profile and will I be their friend!

The best thing to do is just let them have the profile and friend them (either as yourself or make up a person).  This way you can check up on them and their friends.

Me too... I was prepared to be thoroughly entertained this afternoon! Bummer!

  • My SO's 9 year old son has a fb account. His mom set it up for him, and from what I understand she monitors it pretty well.  I believe most of his friends are relatives (his dad and I are on there) and people his mom knows, and he mostly goes on there to play games.

As for setting one up for a baby - my ex's 3 year old has had his own myspace page for a couple years now.  I don't see the point.

  • I've known people to make them for their fetuses, and actually have the baby write on people's wall. It's creepy.

And as for the "13 year old" rule on facebook, all you really have to do is check the box that says "I am 13 years of age or older". The parents don't necessarily have to give permission...
