Can't figure out how to wear 6 week old in ring sling =(

My LO is now 6 weeks old and we've been wearing him in the Ergo with infant insert since he was 1 week.  He absolutely loves the Ergo, I don't know what I would do without it!  I wear in him in it several hours each day.  He almost always falls asleep in it.

I also have 2 ring slings, a Maya lightly padded and one I got on Etsy.  For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to get DS comfortably in either one.  I've been watching videos, etc, but it's just not working.  He winds up screaming every time, so I know I'm doing something wrong.  =(

I really want the RSs to work because compared to my Ergo, they are easier to put in my purse, prettier, and faster to get on and off.  And I am DYING to nurse in a carrier and it looks like a RS would be perfect for that.

Any tips on the RS?  I'm trying the tummy-to-tummy carry.  For one thing, he seems so squished and uncomfortable.  I guess I need to try it with his legs out?  He doesn't froggy his legs in the Ergo anymore (he's getting kinda long).  Also, I can never figure out what to do with his head in the RS.  Do you just kind of turn their head to the side and it gets pinned against you when you tighten it?  Or how is it supported?  How high should the fabric go up (I feel like sometimes it digs into his neck)?  With the Ergo infant insert he is reclined a bit, so he can turn his head from side-to-side which he likes.  Any tips would be so greatly appreciated!!

  • Can you post a picture of you wearing the sling?

It might be that you aren't doing anything wrong, but just need to keep giving it a shot every once in a while until he likes it.

    Yes

Our RS didn't get much love until she could hold her head up and sit with her legs out.

yes, his head will rest to one side

also, try doing the Lotus leg position instead of frogging them...that should help

maybe start out only wearing him when he is tired
