Let me start off by saying that I am NO FAN of the Palin (I think that she is truly awful), but the Newsweek cover was just plain mean. They didn?t retouch a super-close-up photo of her. That just hits below the belt.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was at the request of her team. She looks much more like "real America" without retouching. She is appealing to hockey moms after all.

Maybe if I saw the extreme closeup in person I'd find it unflattering, but I don't see the issue right now. And as someone who made a living designing pages for a newspaper, I wouldn't expect a news magazine to airbrush their cover photos. I, personally, wouldn't want my photo to run that huge anywhere, but I think they were probably just trying to do something different from a standard portrait on the cover.
The cover says She's one of the folks. Sounds like its all about her being a "normal" person...so why the need to touch up?? If she's big on being just one of us, then no...I dont think you need or should have it touched up.
I saw that extreme close up and actually thought to myself, wow she looks good for having 5 kids. (and I am not a Palin fan at all).
Also, the problem with her being "one of the folks" is obvious. She is not prepared or experienced enough to be V.P. period. Her world view is extremely narrow and limited and just because she is a hometown, church-going, PTA supporting, hockey mom with big dreams does not make her ready for the job.
she's a political figure, not a model, so there is no need for airbrushing. they wouldn't airbrush McCain, Biden ?or Obama so they shouldn't do it for her. in fact, i bet you somebody would be screaming sexism if they did touch up her photo but didnt for the other three.
i've only seen the online version and cant see her mustache. but mustache or not, i hope i look that great at her age without help from photoshop. (and i'm no fan either!)

Vanilla? Is that really the cover? If so, that hits far below the belt, even if it was retouched!
