I had an unplanned c-section and I wish I had more information on symptoms and things like that.
First of all you will shake uncontrollably, my dr. said it is because your insides are exposed to the cold air for so long.
Second, if you get nausous tell them asap they will give you something that is AMAZING!
Third, (this one may not apply to all) you will not remember much I don't remember anything until about an hour or 2 into recovery.
Re: What they never told me about c-section from 0-3
I had no shaking. I had some itching from the spinal but it was fixed easily with some Benedryl.
I remember everything after my c-section. I was tired and a little out of it but I do remember it. I guess it just depends on what pain medication they give you and how well you tolerate it.

I also had the shaking despite being wrapped in heated blankets (but they do keep the OR at like 50 degrees or something ridiculously cold).
I, however, had NO memory loss. I remember everything from beginning to end.

I also had the post-spinal shaking & remember very little.
I wish I'd been told about referred shoulder pain.
And I wish I'd been prepared for the amount I'd bleed, even though nothing came out of my vagina. For some reason I guess I thought c/s = very little PP bleeding. Not the case at all, for me.
I shook a little bit - I remember everything from during - even having to listen to "Ring My Bell" when little one was being delivered - and making a joke about it
-- so much for my labor music mix!
I got the stuff for nausea once and it was great, but I wasn't too bad...
Make sure you get up and walk around even though it hurts like hell!!!
I didn't have the shaking either. I have short period of time where I don't recall what happened.
The things I wish I had been prepared for were to have loose fitting clothes to go home in as well as clothes and underwear at home that would not sit on the incision site. My Mom had to make an emergency shopping run for me.
I also agree with the suggestion to walk. It makes the recovery so much easier.
I really hate posts like this. These were your experiences, but not everyone has the same experience. Yes these things can happen, but they don't happen to everyone.
I had no shaking or nausea. I was given some kind of liquid to drink right before I went to the OR which is supposed to reduce stomach acid, so maybe that helped. Also, the shaking is not necessarily because of the cold (never heard that before), it's often a side effect of the spinal.
Also, the only thing I don't remember about my c/s is the anest. taking off my oxygen mask. I was wearing it when they started the c/s, but at some point after DS was born, they took it off. I assume I was too wrapped up in DS to realize that it was taken off. Other than that, I remember every thing that happened the entire day.
Please don't tell people that they won't remember chunks of time surronding their c/s. It is scary enough to have to have a c/s, but to go into it thinking that you aren't going to remember anything makes it even worse.
I don't know ... as someone who that happened to, it's something I wish I would have known *could* happen. I remember my mom & DH telling me things days later that happened in recovery and I had NO idea what they were talking about. That was pretty freaky. I thought there was something seriously wrong with me until I talked to my MW about it. I really wish I would have been prepared for that to have been a potential part of my recovery. For me, the more info I have the better. I hate being in the dark. But I realize not everyone is the same.
I didn't have the shaking either..but crazy crazy itching from the morphine in the epi.
I'm glad you said you don't remember much...I don't remember anything either! And It made me feel really upset for a while after...I barely remembered the birth of my girls. I would reccomend asking them not to give adivan or anything after If you want to have a clear head!
I'm a lurker from 2nd Tri, but I had a CS with DD, and I have to agree, not many people mention it, but I also had terrible shoulder cramping. They gave me painkillers for it, but nothing helped. Dr said it had something to do with gas buildup in my abdominal/chest cavity from all the pulling. However, I did remember everything, and right after they took DD out they wrapped her up and let DH hold her up to me.
I'm gonna second the referred shoulder pain! Ow!!
I remembered everything during the procedure. The morphine made me itch..... on my eyelids of all the wierdness!
I don't think that the OP was to scare anyone. It was just to inform everyone of some of the things that happened to that individual that they were not aware of before the c-section. I appreciate the information and realize that while that exact experience may not happen to everyone, it could happen and I like to be prepared. So thank you OP for sharing your experience.
My c-section was very planned. But, I agree I think that the potential side effects will differ from person to person.
They had me drink a shot of some liquid that reminded me of a sweettart to help reduce stomach acid so I wouldn't vomit. The epidural I didn't feel at all (however, it could have been due to the circumstances). I did get the shoulder pain that was due to gas build up. The nurses gave me gas-x and it definitely helped. I do remember everything from the c-section - but the medication they give you does make you "out of it".
I wasn't cold at all in the OR room I was actually really hot. (Again, it could have been due to the circumstances), but I agree the anest. said it was like 50 degrees in the room.
Towards the end they placed a pain killer into the IV which also made me extremely sleepy (but I didn't sleep). In the end it felt like the stitching me closed took MUCH longer than the prodecure itself. Also, I did get itchy from the morphine (coming off of it)
Bleeding: I didn't have nearly as much as I thought I would have.
Experiences will very. Mine was only bad due to the circumstances and the damned hematoma I got afterwards. The varing sensations around the incision are a pain in the butt also.
ps - some people do get hematoma's.

I really hate posts like yours. The op was in no way trying to scare anyone, she was just sharing her experience. So posts that only sugar coat and tell the good aspects of c sections are acceptable? Right.
I don't think that anyone read her post and thought that her reactions were a universal truth. It was obviously her personal experience and from reading several of the responses in this post she isn't the only one that has had these experiences.
It is nice to know the possibility of what could happen, unless we should all go into it with our head up our asses with visions of puppies and rainbows. Please remove the stick from your ass.
