What kind of car will you have the car seat in?

I bought the Graco snug fit car seat and love it but it is SO bulky. We have a 5 series BMW and Audi and it barely fits in either! The BMW 5 series has a huge back seat... I guess there are just pretty bulky!

What about you?

We will have one in a Tahoe and one in my Mazda CX-7.  Our seat (the Peg Perego) does not fit in DH's sports car.

  • I will have a chicco keyfit in a 2 door volkwagen rabbit Tongue Tied It barely fits, and the passenger seat has to be pushed forward to far for someone to sit in it. Getting a bigger car isn't an option right now for us though.

  • We're getting two of the Graco Snugfit Ally's.  We both have Honda Civics.

They both fit in the back, rear facing, but DH and I will be pushed pretty far forward.  It's doable, though.

  • I drive a Honda Pilot and that will be the car it primarily goes is.  DH drives an Acura TL, but the back seat is pretty roomy so I'm not too worried.  we haven't actually busted the car seat out yet.  I need to get the seat protectors first, since we both have leather.

  • The car seat will be in my car, which is a Nissan Pathfinder.

  • Either one will be able to accommodate the seat.  But it will most likely stay in mine unless we go on long trips.

I didnt even think about the seat protectors! Thanks :)

  • I drive a G6 GT and the back seats are pretty big. I'm not worried. Not decided on which carrier/car seat we will get, but i think pretty much anything would fit. DH and I aren't very tall either, so if we do get something big, it'd be do-able.
  • The car seat will be in my car which is an Acura TL.  We're getting the Chicco Keyfit because it's recommended for our car (based on it's size).

  • I'm curious how y'all have checked the fit with your cars. Have you just measured your cars or have you found stores that will actually let you try the floor model in your car?

Originally, we were planning on replacing my H's small two-door car this year, but I think we're going to wait until after we get our tax refund next year, so it may be a tight squeeze for a few months.

BRU will let you take their in-store models out if you leave your driver's license at the customer service desk.

I also used this link to determine what would fit in our car.  I double checked with the actual seat at BRU and it dead on perfect.

  • The carseat won't fit in the back seat of my current car ('83 BMW 320i, passed down from family member to family member, all when we were in college), so I'm going to have to buy a new one Sad, but it fits perfectly in DH's car ('07 Mazda 3), though we have to get seat protectors for it.

We don't have our carseats yet to try them out, but I have a Kia Optima that is pretty roomy in the back so I'm not to worried, but my fiance has a Transam that I am worried about a carseat not fitting.... We won't have to worry about it though until next spring/summer since he will more than likely have his winter car out and the Transam in storage by the time our little girl arrives.

  • DH's company car is a Ford Escape and I have a Jeep Commander.  The Chicco Key Kit and the Britax Marathon are fine in both vehicles.

I have a Graco Nautilus in a Toyota Corolla right now and with infant will probably be going with Graco Snug Fit again. I never had a problem putting it in there before. Are you sure you have it in there right?

I would think an Audi and BMW would be bigger than a Corolla.

Its not actually IN there yet but we tried it in when we bought it. It def. fits, it is just pretty snug. We have to have the front seat forward a lot more than I thought.

  • I didn't even think of this.  I drive an ML350 and hubby drives a Buick Century, both are pretty roomy.  MIL bought us our carseat and had it sent along with a seat protector!

I should put it in there and see how it fits...I just assumed it would!  We did open the box for the Chicco keyfit though, and it does seem really huge for such a small person.

  • I have a Chevy Trailblazer and the Chicco one fit fine in it, and now DS' convertible Britax Marathon also fits fine in it. Our lease is up in February so we will be getting a new, bigger truck at that point.

DH has a Toyota Camry and we haven't even attempted to put the carseat in his car since anytime we take DS out we take the Trailblazer anyway.

  • I just sold my ML320, so my Honda Element SC.

DH drives a 325i and a 300C but has yet to decide which car to put the base in. Too many vehicles for two people!

  • I haven't decided on a carseat but it will go in my Armada LE.  Plenty of room in the back
  • one in a Yukon Denali and one in a GMC Sierra
  • I've had a Sungfit32 in my Mazda 6 before when I was babysitting for a friend.  I'm going to assume it will fit in DH's 3 as well as the 3s and 6s have similar backseats.  I'm pretty sure we're going with the Sungfit32 because I know several people who are rather partial to it, and it seemed to fit.
  • Huh. I wouldn't have thought you'd have an issue in either of those cars!

We're not sure- we haven't tried car seats yet, but plan to use the Chicco Keyfit 30. I am sure it will fit into my RDX. DH has an Infiniti G37 so we'll see if it fits in that backseat, it is pretty small.

  • We currently have a Jeep Compass and the snug ride fit fine... we did have to have the passenger seat up farther then we normally would, and the same thing in our Nissan Altima.  We will be getting rid of the Jeep and getting a minivan before the twins arrive.
  • We will have it in the VW Rabbit for the very beginning until we get the Jeep Liberty that we want.

  • The Keyfit is actually one of the easiest ones to fit because of the way the base is designed. When installed it takes up less room front to back than most other seats. Something to keep in mind is some seats need extra space between the car seat and the back of the front seat (Evenflo seats need 1 or 2 inches don't remember which) and others can touch the front seats so long as it's ok with the vehicle manufacturer (usually means your vehicle does not have smart airbags, it can interfere with those).

Also some seats need to have the handle brought down in the vehicle and those take up more space front to back. The Evenflo seats are ones that need that, so they end up taking up a ton of space when you add that to the extra space needed. Graco and Chicco handles are reinforced to withstand crash forces and can be left up, making them take up a bit less room.

Oh and the seat protectors aren't considered safe since they can interfere with the tightness of the install or cause the seat to slip.

  • Luckily I thought ahead when buying my charger and the backseat is nice and roomy.

    When buying the car...

MOM:  You aren't buying one of those fancy race cars are you???

ME:  No way mom.. its a 4 door sedan..

MY BROTHER:  *snicker* ... with 425 horsepower... (under his breath)

    DH:  *snicker*

    ME:  *growl*

Haven't tried to fit it in the car yet but will be going with the Graco snug fit as well..

  • Never thought about if the carseats will fit. I'd prefer our 2 Peg Perego's to fit in my VW Rabbit, but if not they can go in DH's full size Dodge Ram with the king cab.

  • Chicco Keyfit in a '08 Subaru Outback and DH's 2010 Jeep Wrangler (it's the 4-door unlimited).  We also have a 2001 Tahoe that it will go in every now and again, but that's our car to pull the camper, so not a daily driver.

  • I have a Honda Element. I'm worried about how far back the backseats are that it may be difficult to load in and out. Practice makes perfect I guess.
  • DD has her Britax advocate, rear facing in the center of our Saab 97x (SUV). DH is 6'8 so there is no way our Chicco KeyFit 30 is going to fit behind the driver seat. I am not sure it will even fit behind me while driving. Anyways ... we are currently in the market for a Tahoe or Yukon and both seats should fit just fine.

  • We haven't bought ours yet but we plan on getting the chicco keyfit30 travel system. It will go in a Volkeswagon Jetta and a Camry. I don't have any concerns for the Camry. I am concerned it will be very tight in my Jetta, which it will be in most of the time.

  • I am thoroughly not worried about if any car seat will fit in my backseat because DH and I are going to be downsizing to one car which isn't really a car but a van (I have issues driving little cars since a car accident in a mitsubishi spyder). So we have a Chrysler Town and Country so I'm thinking that if any car seat does not fit in our back seat, then that car seat was not made to be in any size car.

  • A Jeep Grand Cherokee (2008).  I just assumed it would fit since it's an SUV and not a small, two door car.  I guess I should check!  We've been thinking about getting a Tahoe... but I'm sure it would fit in there.
