Ergo question

so i just go my ergo from babysteals and I have the insert as DS is 9 weeks and probably 11-12 pounds.  I put him in it and he seemed to be uncomfortable because he couldnt really see i think.  His head was inbetween my collar bone and chest.  His feet looked squashed but they cant wrap around obivously.

Im thinking of just taking the insert back and giving it a go again when he can really hold his head up. He can hold it up decently but he flops still.

I really would like to use it now but Im not sure how to go about getting him comfy.

any tips are appreciated.  :)

Re: Ergo question

  • We cross LOs legs so his bottom is the lowest part and his legs are crossed up and in front. We don't have the insert.  DS is about 10 lbs.  Maybe a few ozs over now.  He really only liks the Ergo of he is nearly asleep.  But, I have noticed him getting to like it better in the last few days, when he is awake - so that is good, I think!

We didn't use it until DS was 6 months but I do want to say something about the head and neck.  It is really, really important to have neck support.  A lot of people think their babies can hold their heads up and don't realize that they can only do it for a few minutes here and there.  Then they try to wear them for extended periods of time.  It can be quite dangerous.

At the age you are working with I wouldn't try to go without neck assistance.  I wish I had a leg suggestion for you but we didn't use it at that age just because we used the Moby.  GL!

  • Which carry are you doing? I can't tell from your description. We never did the "taco"- DD seemed very uncomfortable in it. We just did the "frog-" with her body upright, chest to chest, her legs splayed out to the sides and the insert tucked behind her back and neck for neck support. She didn't seem to mind not being able to see, this is exactly how she was in my Ellaroo wrap, but I had to stop using that around 6 weeks or so because DD grew too tall and I didn't have enough fabric to support her neck properly.

I should have written that better.  :)

I wouldn't put him in it without great head and neck control.  I mean I would just wait to use till he gets to that  point.

Wait, if you're using it with the insert, both his feet should go to one side, not splayed to wrap around. Are they coming out on one side, and is that why you're saying they look squashed? I angle LO so that her lower body is pointing sideways (therefore more comfortable on the feet) and then she does a half-twist for her upper body so that she's not fully facing against my chest, but sorta resting her cheek against my chest and her shoulders are almost aligned with mine but not quite (still at an angle).
