What exactly is lightening crotch?

I have random 'oh my god' shooting pains in that area that come randomly.  I'm guessing they might be what other people have called lightening crotch but I've never actually heard/read how anyone would describe them....

What are they?  What do they feel like? How long do they last?

I would like to not feel like I need to grab my crotch in pain while in public.

    Sometimes it feels like bolts of lightning running through your crotch. Hence the term lightning crotch! Its usually quick and over as soon as it begins. Just another fun symptom of pregnancy!

    Sounds like you've felt them already. They're just shooting pains into your crotch out of no where. They last about as long as it takes to say WT of WTF. lol

    So that's what it is!  I've also been experiencing this and didn't know what lightening crotch meant!  Thanks for the clarification! :)

    Oh my gosh!!!  I felt this last night and became nervous that I was having contractions!?  The logical part of me knew that is was just part of a typical pregnancy....but of course I freaked out :O)  I am relieved to know that many people experience this!  Whew!

    I saw this when I first became pregnant and just the thought of it scared the crap out of me!  How had I not heard of this?! So far I have not experienced it (knock on wood) but I definitely stopped researching pregnancy symptoms/side effects.  Good luck!
