Trying to Get Pregnant

has DH asked you to change your appearance?

A post on another board got me thinking about this and I was curious.  Has DH ever asked you to change anything about your appearance and what?  My DH would never ask me to change anything, (I'm sure he wouldn't exactly say no to a boob job though if I wanted it!).  I do know that he prefers when I wear my hair down, so if we're going out together, I'll usually do that for him.  But never anything else!  Share if you want!

Re: has DH asked you to change your appearance?

  • NO, he has never asked me to change anything. He says I can do what I want but tells me what he prefers lol Like I was thinking of chopping off my hair after the wedding and he said If I wanted to I could but he prefers long hair lol That has been the only thing he has ever commentd on our whole relationship, liking my hair long.

  • He!! no.  That would not go over well.  I do know he likes whe I dress nicely and grow my hair longer, but knows better that to ask me to change anything.  (Same goes for me, too.)

  • The only thing DH has ever mentioned is my hair. Before DS my hair was crazy long, and curly and dark dark brown. When I met MH however I had cut it short (the asymetrical stacked bob) and it was red. Not red hair red, but what was referred to as "chocolate covered cherry" it was just very dark and red red. I have lightened it up to a more auburn and am growing it out. For our church wedding my mom paid $$$$$ for me to have extensions and MH went crazy for it. He has requested I not cut my hair short ever again and everytime he sees an old picture of me with long hair he comments on it lol. I have gained weight so long hair thins my face out so I feel sexier now that it's growing out anyway. Win win.
  • No, he hasn't. I have asked him about his preferences before though. (Hair up vs Hair down, Some make up vs. None, etc.) He will answer those questions, but he will always say "I like both, but I like...."

No he hasn't - and I don't think it would go over well if he did.

I will say that I know he likes me in certain outfits/style of clothes, which I have no problem wearing on occasion.  But if he told me to lose weight/cut my hair/get a nose job I would smack him.

  • DH would never ask me to change my appearance. Even if I ask him for his opinion he's indifferent about my hair. He's like " I like it no matter what you do to it." I even try to drag an opinion out of him and he's like "whatever you want to do is fine with me". I had rhinoplasty done two years ago and he was fully supportive b/c it was something I really wanted. He would never suggest anything.
  • Nope.  He has made comments when I put on makeup that I am pretty without "all that crap" and don't need it.  He also likes my hair pulled back in a ponytail.

  • He's told me that he prefers my hair long and that he doesn't like makeup.  But, he says he's happy with however I style my hair or face.

  • No, never.

In fact, I've brought up the topic of wanting a boob job before he and was adamantly against it. He says he likes me just the way I am and doesn't want anything fake.

  • My DH is too smart to do something like that.

The only thing he has ever mentioned is that he loves it when I wear my hair curly.  He doesn't say that he dislikes it when I wear it straight, he just mentions that he likes it curly when I wear it that way.

I have brought up the idea of getting a boob job (I'm only a 34B) but he said he would really dislike if I changed something like that about myself.  He's more of a natural, go with what God gave you kind of guy.

  • If it was up to DH he'd have me in one of his white t-shirts, panties, no make-up and messy hair 24/7.

    I don't think I'll be taking his advice :)

  • He has never asked me to change a thing. I wouldn't change something just for him and would also not expect him to change anything.

  • MH actually loves my hair up in a big messy bun.  I have really long curly hair, so when I put it up like that I think I look crazy lol, but he loves it.  Otherwise, he never has asked me to change anything about myself.  That would probably cause a huge fight.

You said it better than I did.  This is my DH's perspective exactly.

  • I cant say I have been ask to change anything. I guess being with someone for who they are is just that to me and him. I figure if I can take him at his best or worst then he sould be able to take me at my best or worst. I do know he like my hair long, but if I wanted to cut it he may be a little upset, but he'd like it short too.
    image image
  • The only request he has ever made is for me to pluck a few stray eyebrow hairs. I think that's a reasonable request.
  • Never.  He wouldn't care if I cut all my hair off and wore a clown costume everyday.  That stuff is just not important to him.
    image
  • Not at all, but I like to try different things with my hair and make up a lot. So if I'm trying some new trendy hair style or a different color eye shadow and he doesnt like it he might tell me. But he never tells me NOT to wear or do something. Bottom line: if I like his dislike of my new style won't make me change it. But I do try to wear it like he likes it when we go out for him.

He also likes when I change my look around for the most part. If it's been long a while, he likes it short, if it's been brown a while, he likes it if I end up going blond. Which is good cause I'm like a chameleon with my hair.

  • He hasn't and better not ever. He said he likes my hair long but then I just chopped off ten inches the other day and when I came home he loved it. He doesn't care about makeup and since not wearing it keeps my skin nice I tend not to wear any. I want a nose job. I hate my nose. But he says my nose is part of me and he loves me and it wouldn't be the same. So if anything he likes me the way I am. I still might get a nose job if we can afford it.

Lol!  You should try it and see what he says...

  • He has definite opinions on my hair which I'm happy enough to oblige.  He is also very upfront about the fact that he will divorce me if I start wearing holiday sweaters.  Again, happy to oblige.  I'm scared to death of "teacher wardrobe" and avoid them anyway.

  • he's actually asked me to gain weight. I had lost quite a bit before the wedding and he wanted a little more to grab on to he says.  It wasn't a problem! :)

But other than that, nope. As others have said he has preferences (hair down, no makeup) but wouldn't ask me to change a thing.

  • He prefers no makeup but likes how I look either way.  He prefers my hair long but would love it either way... lol pretty much he just wants me to be happy with how I look and feel!
  • Just that he isn't a fan of my hair straight (I very rarely do it is as it is too much work) and that he likes me tan during the summer. All of the above work out because my hair is curly and I take DD to the pool all summer!

  • No, but when I say I'm going to put make up on he tells me I don't need it. Really I don't, but I wear mascara, and gloss only when tanned and sum blush when I'm not... Nothing over the top ever...
  • No, he's smarter than that.  He does have a minor panic attack every time I get a haircut, but even when I cut off a fair amount he still liked it.

  • No, he just gets frustrated when I get lazy and don't shave my legs during the winter. Like it's my fault the cold makes the hairs grow right back. lol

Other than that, he doesn't really care. He did mention once that he misses all the crazy eye make up i'd wear in college

  • He makes comments from time to time about missing my long hair and when I told him I was letting it grow back out, he seemed very happy. Other than that, he compliments me whether I am wearing makeup or not. He compliments me when I am in sweats and "fixed up." He's pretty smart about stuff like that.

  • No he has never asked me to change anything.
  • No.  I've been blonde since 6 months before meeting him, so it's all he's seen me as, (aside from a few pictures).  Lately I've been talking about going back to brown--honestly after seeing so many of you pretty brunettes!--and he doesn't mind one way or the other.  "If you want to, go ahead whenever you want to, Babe."  Other than super hoochie mama outfits, there isn't anything he doesn't/does want me to wear or look like.
  • No, he's never asked me to change my appearance. He doesn't make suggestions about what I should wear. I hate to admit, but I always judge when I hear other women say that their husband 'won't let them' wear certain things or cut their hair a certain way.

I did ask him one time what color I should dye my hair between 2 colors and he told me which he preferred on me. That's about the extent of it.

  • Wow! Long hair seems to be pretty popular.

My unqualified sister cut my hair REALLY short once (too short) while DH and I were dating. I opened the door for him when he came to visit and he didn't say a thing; he simply diverted his gaze Embarrassed I recently cut it again to about chin length in order to donate it to Locks of Love, but he was again disappointed. He's told me time and time again that it's sexier long, but with immensely thick, naturally wavy hair, it can be so irritating keeping it long!

The only other thing he's mentioned is that he likes it straight, too. Sigh... Did I mention I have naturally wavy hair?

  • He's asked me to grow out my hair repeatedly. Basically any time I got it cut he'd be sad for a while and ask that maybe this time I let it grow. Since I complain constantly about how long he goes in between haircuts we have an agreement. I keep my hair past my shoulders and he keeps his above the ears. I've let it grow in the last 5 or so years well past the shoulder (tailbone length at the moment by my choice) and I think at this point he'd be displeased to see it go back above waist length... he'd honor the agreement as long as I kept mine below the shoulders though.

Hair up, hair down he doesn't care.

I do take him shopping for clothes though since he has to look at my clothes the majority of the time- might as well be pleasing to his eyes too. That's more laid back on my part than demanding on his though. He'll tell me to put something back on the shelf and I generally trust his judgment.
