BCP while BF?

I started on the mini-pill at about 6-weeks after my DD was born.  Now that she is 6-mo I was going to switch to ortho-cyclen at the advice of my OB because she said that the efficacy of the mini-pill is impacted by any supplemental feeding (i.e. solids).  I would still like to nurse/pump for my DD but am worried that my supply will tank when I start the new BCP.  Anyone on a combination contraceptive and still nursing?

    That's interesting.  I have never heard that about solids and the mini-pill.  I am currently on the mini-pill too.  Curious to see responses.

    I've never heard of that, I would think a regular BCP would dry your milk up. I'm still on the mini pill and plan to be until I'm done BF.

    Hmm...my OB told me to call when I was completely done BFing to change to a BCP with estrogen in it. But now we are TTC so I'm off it completely.

    For some reason I thought that it would also come out in your milk....and that was one of the reasons to be on the mini pill.....maybe I'm totally wrong on that!

    But even the mini pill lowered my supply a little.....

    My OB said that he hasn't seen a decrease in supply when moms switch to normal BC once BFing is well established (5 or 6 months in). I switched back to Ortho Tri Cyclen last week because I wasn't comfortable with the fact that the Mini Pill was already less effective than normal BC and because I had awful side effects on it. I HAVE heard and read that starting solids decreases the effectiveness though...let me see if I can find a source.
