Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

when are they "not contagious?

DS has had a viral pharyngitis since a week ago and my day home won't take him back until he's no longer contagious and is symptom free for 48 hours. He's had a cough and snotty nose for the past 3 days but seems next to normal otherwise.

When are they considered not contagious anymore?

Re: when are they "not contagious?

  • I always heard no fever for 24 hours.

DD has a runny nose the entire time she is teething, so we can never go by that "symptom" of sickness!

  • I'd get a letter from your pediatrician.  If you explain the situation, I'm sure if will not be a problem.
  • Coughs can hang on for AGES....Sounds to me like you should be in the clear by now.
  • I would think 24hrs after the fever is gone. That's the rule I go by.
