Pumping: did I time it wrong?

Every morning around 9am I pump on on side iwth a hand pump while LO nurses the other, and I always get 4oz. Today I decided to try pumping with my Medela electric double pump after nursing and I did it like, five minutes after LO finished and I barely got .5oz :(

Did I time this wrong? Is there a better time to do it? I feel like I wasted my opportunity to get those 4oz.

Re: Pumping: did I time it wrong?

  • I actually pump the same exact time as DD nurses so I can take advantage of the let down but was hoping the electric could bring on another let down but it didn't. I will try an hour after next time and see how that does, thank you!

I would guess it's probably nothing to do with timing or the pump and that you didn't let down as efficiently with the pump as you do when LO is nursing. Can you use one phlange of the electric pump while LO is nursing, the way you used the manual, and see what that does?

After LO's second feed of the day I waited one hour and got a couple of ounces with the electric pump, as well as 1.5 out of the handpump while I nursed. Yay!

But I think I will also try your suggestion, I bet I could get mega milk!
