Changing Stations in Restaurants

Ok...I thought it was annoying (and incredibly presumptuous of them) when they don't have one in the men's room....but WTF not having one at all?????

I am finding more and more places (that have high chairs and kids meals and are totally kid appropriate places, i.e. Sonoma Chicken Coup (skyport drive)) that just do not have changing stations period...nor sinks big enough to set up shop.

WTF?

Re: Changing Stations in Restaurants

  • I have noticed this as well. We were at waffle barn a couple weeks ago and I went to change J and they didn't have one and for some reason I thought they legally had to have one.

  • Yeah, I've seen that too in some places. Just note it to the management. We did at one restaurant, and they did add a changing table a few weeks later.

I think I'm going to do this.

  • Ditto Ava on letting them know. I made big stink to management at one place about there not being one in the mens room and they added it.
  • Yup, I've complained to more than one manager about this...not sure if it did any good but I felt better,

I've also changed my kid on a table in a restaurant...I was pissed that they didn't have a changing table and that the host was snotty to me about it so I went to an empty table (where no other patrons were around) and changed my kid on the table....the host was shocked.

  • Yeah, I complained to Sonoma Chicken Coup and to Yankee Pier (at SR) and still no changing tables.

It amazes me when they don't even give a sh!t that they are putting customers off of going to their businesses.

  • I went to a Panera that didn't have them; I told the manager I wouldn't be back because of it, and suggested that they look into getting one. It actually wasn't that long ago, so I haven't been back yet, but I'll look. I was really surprised that a big chain like that didn't have them,

I am a huge fan of Panera and every one I have been in has one!!!  So maybe it was an oversight?  I am thinking that is the same case with Sonoma Chicken because all the others ones have them (or at least the others that I have been to).

But I am shocked that they didn't have one!

  • It's annoying but I wouldn't not go back someplace because they didn't have a changing table.  I don't actually end up changing him in restaurants very often as much as we're out and about.

I agree with Boomboom - I won't not go back, but I will recommend. Good going outfood is few and far between for me to give up on a place because of that. I'd rather stink it out and get one installed.

    BTW: you got one star!!!!

  • The downtown Campbell Sonoma Chicken Coop doesn't have one but they have a counter sort of off to the side when you go in. I just used that, I think that is what it is for. I try to change Jake in the back of my car before we go into a place.

When Abbye was little I would do the stand up diaper change, hahaha.

  • DH & I do standing diaper changes all the time, we are pro lmao!! On our last trip to SF I learned I could change a diaper standing in less than 30 seconds.

Wow!  That is IMPRESSIVE!  I am SO not good at standing changes!  Any tips?

Re: the original post- I agree w/ complaining to the manager.  I also can't imagine boycotting a place b/c of it though.  Like others- I tend to change them in the back of my car right before and/ or after.  I'm not a big fan of public restrooms.

  • I have used a changing station once in DD's entire life. I change her in the car.

  • add me to the mrs.boomboom camp, i won't boycott a place b/c they don't have a changing station. we usually change dd before we go out to eat or we'll change her in the car if we absolutely have to.  diaper changing stations in most resturaunts are NASTY !! and i'd rather leave the place, change dd in the car and go back in.

  • We do the I-5 drive to Southern California a lot, and I am shocked at the lack of changing tables and playgrounds along the route!  Seriously???  We always have a packed car, so changing in the car is a challenge.  And the kids really need playgrounds to burn some energy en route!  But the lack of changing tables kills me...
