What is this clicking noise?

When DD is nursing, she's sometimes making a clicking noise.  I reposition her, and I can't get it to stop.  I never had this problem with DS.  It's not painful for me, and doesn't seem to be causing her any problems.  Do you think my milk is just coming too fast or too much for her right now?  I thought maybe it was a latch problem, but I can't seem to get it to stop.  Any ideas?

  • Here's some info from Kellymom.com, although it's not much in the way of an answer:

It can be a sign of just about anything, and it can also be normal. If your DC is gaining weight well and you're not in any discomfort, I probably wouldn't worry about it right now.

  • My son still does this, but much less than when he was 1-2months old.  The LC I saw when he was about 2 weeks old thought it was just him breaking suction to swallow since his latch was good, etc.  It doesn't hurt and it hasn't caused me any problems.

  • DS makes that clicking noise all the time.  According to the NICU it's him putting his tongue to the roof of his mouth trying to slow the flow of milk.  (DS doesn't breast feed but it's probably the same noise)
