I'm 28 week & 2 days with my dd. My husband and I have chosen to give her a boys name but spell it rather girly. It seems that no one in my circle of friends and family other than my dh, my mother and I really like it. I was wondering if anyone else thinks it's so odd for a girl to have a boys name??
By the way, her name is Allynn Daleah Inez
Allynn = Allen, and Inez is my aunt that past a few years ago.
Re: What do u think of giving a girl a male name?
I think it depends on the name. I'm not against it. I like the Dylan, Camerym, Shawn, and so on naming. I have never heard Allynn for a girl but I think its fine. It works. I assume you will say A-Lynn more than you would sale AL-Len. Bc if its Allen exactly - not sure I'm feeling it.
Now Jacob for a girl is no good!
I think Allyn is truly horrible on many levels. Sounds like a boy name AND it is misspelled. I would immediately assume that you were either illiterate, very young (like 16) and/or lower class just based on that name.
Yes, I think it is odd to give a girl a boy name. You are having a girl- accept it and don't try to make her a boy.
There is a reason no one you know IRL likes the name- it is dreadful.
I don't like it.
What about Allana?

1.) This is a terrible idea
2.) This is a terrible name
You have plenty of options, such as those listed by posters above.
Wow... You'd think I was planning on naming one of your children. (lmbo)
I have several criteria to meet when chosing her name. I need the initials A-D-I-M. The name Inez must be present and I hate any name that ends in "a", "ah", or that gives that sound at the end. (I do realize that her current middle name has the "ah" and I'm actively trying to change it).
So since Allynn makes me sound like an uneducated teenage mom (lol). What would you suggest???
I would pronounce it Ally-n. With that spelling, I don't think it looks like it would pronounced Alen.
I like the suggestion of Ellen!
SO like Alien. Come on- this name is awful and your child is a human being who has to live with it.
i'll bite...why do initial need to be ADIM?
Other "A" names:
Audrey
Abigail
Avery
Ainsley
Alice

Alice, Alexis, Agnes, Annabelle, Avery, Audrey, etc. There are many names that seem to fit your criteria.

Sorry, it is really, really bad. Really.
There are like 10,000 names that start with A. Girl names.
also, fwiw, this is way more than giving a girl a male name. you're also making it a crazy spelling.
I think naming her Allen would be preferable to Allynn, in all honesty.
Yowsers - you got flamed. I'm pro-male names, (We picked Ryan as a middle name if we have a girl) but typically against making up the spelling. And what I like about Allynn is that it sounds the way it's spelled. I hate it when people say "It's pronounced..." My theory is if you have to tell people how it's pronounced your child will be doing the same her whole life.
Honestly, if you've settled on a name I wouldn't bother asking people what they think - what matters is that you and DH both like it. But MAYBE consider Alyn or Allyn? I think a few less letters would help your cause.
My DH & DS's initails are ADM. I promised him that she'd have their initals. Like I said before the "I" is for Inez, who is my favorite aunt that passed not long ago and naming my child after her is a must.
Oh, I forgot to mention not only does her first name have to start with an A it has to be Al-something. Plus all the crap I listed in an earlier post.
So trying to fit a name into all of these rules is driving me crazy...
I do like Alex as well and we all know girls named Alex
Sorry, I have to agree with PPs. I'm not a fan of using boy names for girls at all, and I think the spelling of Allynn will prove to be a hassle for both you and your DD in the long run.
Obviously, you don't have to listen to critics of the name, but if I got such a large number of negative responses about my favourite name, I'd rethink my choice.
I'd suggest Allison (which is fairly similar to Allen or Allynn), Audrey, Adair, Arden, Adele, Aspen, Astrid, etc.
ETA: Just saw that it has to start with an 'Al'. How about Alice, Allison (as I suggested above), Allene (just found this one- never seen it before, not sure if I like it but it fits your criteria), Alexis...
What about Alwyn? I *think* this is a Welsh girl's name, but maybe the one person I know with this name also has parents who used a boy's name.
There are lots of names that start with "AL," though. Just thumb through the A's in a baby name book. Alicia, Alina, Allison, Alma, Alba, Alyssa, etc.
Allynn is a hot mess of a name.
I hate the name Alan for a boy, really loathe it for a girl.
After 31 cycles, baby boy K (IUI) born 11/03/11
BFP (Femara) - 08/09/13 m/c around 6 weeks. xoxox Baby April
Rainbow baby girl E (Femara) born 11/16/16
Allynn makes me want to poke my eyeballs out. It is that bad.
If you're going to give your daughter a male name, I say OWN IT. Don't try to girly it up with an atrocious spelling. Spell it Allan or Allen. Or better, yet, pick a name that actually is a girls name.

The sound of the name is pretty but I prefer the spelling Alan or Allen. Other options and their meanings are:
Alaine (dear child), Alane (fair), Alanis (precious), Alexis (protector of mankind), Alice (truth/noble), Alise (of nobility), Allene/Alline (attractive, peaceful), Alodie (wealthy)
This may sound mean but if I ever met you IRL and you told me all this, all I would think is that you are A DIMwit for naming your daughter a horrible misspelling of Alan.
Your daughter is going to hate her name when she gets older because no one will be able to pronounce it and kids will make fun of her for having a boy name.
How about Malin?
Why does your daughter need to have the same initials as your husband and son? Where do you fit in all of this? Isn't your husband being a bit selfish in this?
I think Allynn is pretty terrible. There are, as others mentioned, plenty of lovely A-names that don't end int he A sound. And I'm sort of eyeing Daleah, too. Is that supposed to be Dahlia? Your spellings are pretty atrocious.
I like Casey, Harper, Kendall, Avery, Taylor, etc. on girls. But Allen? No.
Spelled Allyn? No way.
Allynn Daleah sounds and looks very tacky, IMO. Never mind that people will most likely misprounounce it.
If you absolutely insist on choosing this name, spell it Allin.
I really like Alanis and Malin much better, though.
I don't think the pronunciation Allen is horrible for a girl, but the spelling really seems like you're just trying to make things more difficult. A girl will be unique enough with the name Allen, you don't really need to change the spelling.
As for the Daleah/Dahlia debate- Dahlia looks much prettier and makes more sense.
First Name Suggestions:
Allie
Alice
Allison
Really Malin?? Wow!! Kids are going to get picked on regardless.
