Have any of you asked your doctors about boating (like power boat, occasionally rough water) during pregnancy? We just got in from a pretty rough ride out on the ocean and the boat slammed down a few times. I'm nervous about going out again, although I'd think it's more of a concern the later you get.

Re: Lame 1st Tri question - boating?
I'm laughing a little at you right now, supportive laughing, but laughing nonetheless.
Unless you're ramming your body into the boat, or if you constantly land on your vagina, or it's a SQUALL, you're fine.

You can laugh all you want.
But seriously, this is rough ocean boating, in a little boat, so it's not terribly unlike a rollercoaster.

Oh NOW she answers the question. AFTER making fun of me.
I had to. You know I love you

We live on a lake and go out on our boat a lot in the summer, so I specifically asked my Dr. this. He said it's completely fine even if the water is somewhat rough and you're going fast. He just said to stay away from tubing and water skiing and anything where you could potentially fall.
a roller coaster is way more harsh on your body than a boat ride. It's a constant, forceful whipping your body left/right/up/down with a 1-G force. Unless you have some special boat that can create that, it's not the same at all.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! lol

LOL- I read it this way too! I agree with asking your dr. I would personally be more concerned with nausea as the further I got the worse it got -to the point where car rides were making me sick. So, I would keep that in mind!
DH and I were talking about this the other day (and never came to a conclusion), so I don't think you're lame at all!
Our consensus was that we would wait until after the baby's born - the thought of sitting out in the heat (at the lake) and the rough slamming of the boat into the water at higher speeds just didn't sound comfortable to me. But I never asked the doc, so I'll defer to Shell then.
