Parenting after a Loss

stupid question alert: putting LO in the shopping cart

When did you start doing this? I have a cover but I'm worried for some reason. He can sit unsupported now, but still topples some. Do you think he'd be ok?

  • i started with older dd at 6 months. the cover protected her from hurting herself.

  • We've been doing this for a while now.  I'd say at least a month.  The strap on the shopping cart helped hold DS steady at first, when he was a little less strong.  It's really a relief to be able to just take him into the grocery store instead of having to haul some sort of gear in there!

  • I started around 5-6 months (after she could sit unsupported).  I was careful at first not to make sudden movements.  Haha, now she loves it if I swing the cart around.

  • I started doing this a couple weeks ago and it has made shopping SO much better. He hated being in the infant seat so then I'd end up carrying him...and I'd always forget the ergo, etc. So now I use the cover and it's great. It's so soft and cushy that they really can't hurt themselves and the strap keeps them upright anyway. I've even stuck him in there in a pinch without the floppy seat cover and with the strap tight enough he's totally fine.

(he also sits on his own but will still topple here and there)

  • Thanks! I think we'll give it a shot today when he gets up from his nap. Idk why I've been so weird about it...maybe in denial that he's big enough to do it!

  • I just did this with Addie the other day for the first time. Made for a much happier baby in Target, although it gave me more room in the cart to fill, which probably wasn't a good thing. It was fun though. She still topples a little too, but was fine. She'd lean a little to one side here or there, but was very happy.
  • 2 wks ago right after we bought his new car seat.

His 1st cart cover (which I HATE but that's a whole other story) has super securing velcro straps and you can strap him in as tight as you want. He was in there quite securely!

My new cover (I bought yesterday and haven't tested it out yet) has an adjustable clip/clasp (like what is in the cart already) and adjusts to your baby.

We need a cart cover because ds likes to chew on everything!
