Knitting help needed (baubles! bobbles?)

I need to work popcorn on this afghan, and I've never done it before. The pattern says:

(K, P, K, P, K) all in next stitch, pass 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th stitch on right needle over first stitch.

Does that mean I KPKPK those 5 stitches, then pass them back over the needle, kind of like Slip 1, K1, PSSO...but actually knitting instead of slipping?

I tried learning on YouTube, but the videos are sooo slow to load tonight! Thanks :)

  • I've never done a bobble before, but I would say that you are right and it is like a S1 K1 PSSO, knits instead of slips.

  • I don't think you knit any of the 2nd, 3rd, etc stitches. You just pass those stitches onto the right needle, but instead of just slipping them over to the needle you're passing them over top of the stitches that you did all in the first stitch. Basically, it's bunching all of those together to make up for the fact that you just did a bunch of stitches in one stitch and keeps it from increasing or decreasing the row.

    Ella is finally here!
