Middlesex Hospital in Middletown

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone had any experiences or knew anyone who had experiences with Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT?  I live in middletown and always assumed i'd give birth there since it was in town, but figured i should do my research first and ask around!  My MIL perfers Hartford Hospital b/c she says it is equipped to handle more emergency situations, if they are needed.

Thanks!

Re: Middlesex Hospital in Middletown

  • I just delivered DS there on 4/4/10! Overall I had a good experience there, the nurses were very nice and helpful. I was induced and had a successful induction so there were no emergency situations for me. The rooms were also nice and private. I hope this helps, if you have any other more specific questions, just let me know!

  • I know a couple of people that have delivered there and they LOVE it.  One of my friends lives in Cheshire and has delivered all 4 of her kids there because she loves the hospital so much.  Another friend delivered both of her children there and cannot say enough good things about it.  If I remember correctly all of the L&D nurses are also lactation consultants (if you are planning on breast feeding).  I have never heard a bad thing about it.  As far as emergency situations go, if you are not a high-risk pregnancy and everything is fine with your baby, I would not worry about it.  I am SURE the hospital has a contingency plan for emergencies if a transfer is needed.  Hope that helps!

  • Thanks, Ladies!  We plan on going to take a tour of the hospital soon, but i wanted to hear from actual patients!
  • I had a normal delivery 9/2009-nothing high risk. I liked it. 2 of my friends also delivered there and seemed to have liked it better than I did. My 1st delivery 9/2007 was at MidState in Meriden and I liked that hospt better. The rooms seemed more private and bigger.
  • I had a great experience at Middlesex. The nurses were wonderful and there was a ton of support.  I also went to a breastfeeding support group for the first couple months after DD was born. The rooms are newer and private. Overall, can't say enough good things. Oh- not sure if this matters, but I was induced.
  • We had a fantastic experience there as far as L&D and my hospital stay afterwards, but unfortunately they have a low-level NICU and my daughter had to be transferred to UCONN via ambulance, which is not a very fun experience.  If you suspect that your baby might have any kind of complications I would not deliver at Middlesex-- otherwise, it's a fantastic hospital for L&D.  Good luck!
