First year b-day party opinions

We are about to start planning Tyler's first b-day party and was seriously thinking of inviting people over for cake, ice cream and pizza. Is that cheesy or classless? Honestly he will not remember his first few parties and I am at a loss on what to do for him. Thanks

Re: First year b-day party opinions

  • C's first bday party was sandwiches, cake and ice cream. I think that kind of thing is pretty standard for 1st birthdays, since the child won't remember it and can't do a whole lot of interactive stuff (games, bounce houses, etc.) at that age.

  • We're at this dilemma too!  Our hell is actually going to be two parties, one in San Antonio for DH's durned family, the other here.  We may do burgers on the grill for the one at home.  We don't want to do one of DH's die hard themes (starWars, etc) until Matt can have more fun with it.

  • Sounds perfectly fine to me. We just had family over with hot dogs and cake.

Can you believe our boys are almost 1?

Our dilemma as well is that it is too darn hot to have an outdoor one so we are always going to have to find indoor places once he is older to actually know what is going on.

I wanted to keep the number down to 20 but it might be 30 or so!!

Oh, I know! I hate that outdoor parties are vetoed, DH was so disappointed.   I guess pool parties are in order when they get older!  I cannot believe they are almost one. Of course Matt thinks he is much older..he has already given me the side-eye on numerous occasions.

Just one more reason to get our next house with a pool!

Oh yes Tyler is already testing us.

  • We had planned a pool party but had to cancel it because of Rita.  We resheduled a few weeks later and just did an indoor "party" with burgers, cake and beer. :-)

  • We had a party with just family and very close friends. We served fajitas, cake, and ice cream. William was oblivious that it was for him, although he loved the cake.

I felt no need to go all out on a party for his first birthday.
