How do you occupy your time on bedrest?

My friend just got put on bedrest. Just 3 days in and she's already stir crazy. Is there anything I can do or a care package I can put together for her to help her occupy her time?

I was going to give her all my books to borrow to read and some of my DVDs...

Any other ideas?  :)

  • Sign up for netflix! Its really cheap and you can watch tv shows, and movies on the computer and also get them sent to your house.
  • Loading the player...
  • Comcast On Demand

I also cross stitch and crochet. Those are both very easy to do in bed.

  • Puzzles, books, videos (love streaming Netflix), I also spent way too much time on the computer.

  • Care package: coloring books, book of sudoku, some books, and if you have the ability either a phone call or a visit once a day/week at a certian time. My sis was on bedrest for her first and each monday I came by, had lunch and brought a trashy magazine. I know it helped and gave her something to look forward to.

  • I spent ten weeks on bed rest. The first week is the hardest. You feel useless and lonely and by the end of the week your body starts to feel sore from sitting all day.

To get through the first week I suggest simple things like magazines, books, movies, etc. Maybe a massager of some sort for hubby to use on her aching muscles and back. A soothing candle is always nice and friendly visits during the day if possible. Just because she's on bed rest doesn't mean she's sick. Lots of people stayed away from me because they thought I wouldn't be up for visitors, but Mentally and even physically (health wise) I was fine, it was just the contractions that were preventing me from moving.

Long term - I started a blog which has been theraputic/entertaining. I also got a Knifty Knitter and a fun book full of easy projects and yarn of course. I spent a lot of time online either "window" shopping for baby or actually shopping. I planned our nursery, perfected our baby registry and caught up with all my friends on FB. I have also watched a lot of tv and taken a lot of naps. :) Eventually you stop feeling so stir crazy. You settle in to a routine of sorts and for my the time actually went by pretty quickly.

    Good luck to her!
