Roll Call... even lurkers

With the new format I thought maybe we have some new people on the board, or some that have been here a while, but don't post.  So, tell us who you are and why you are here :)

  • i'm loree. we went through 2.5 years of infertility and our 3rd IVF attempt gave us our beautiful twin girls at 29 weeks. they are doing well and may be home from the NICU in a few weeks. i had a non-measurable cervix at 26 weeks and was on hopsital bedrest for 2 weeks. after being at home on bedrest for one week, i went into PTL yet again and this time had my girls. i had an infection called chorio which caused the girls to come early.

i (heart) this board and all of us strong ladies that are on it.

  • i should add the girls are on their 37th day in the NICU.
  • hi ladies. ?i'm april. ?my DD and DS were born at 26w1d. ?i was on bedrest at 19 weeks due to PTL and a shortening cervix, on procardia to stop PTL. ?maternal temp, PTL, and rupture of baby a's sac led to my delivery. DD and DS are doing wonderfully! ?i'm amazed by them every day. ?they're crawling and getting into EVERYTHING! ?i love it...
  • Hi, I'm Sarah and I have triplets, 2 identical girls and a boy, that were born at 29 weeks 2 days due to placental abruption.  The girls both have PVL, IS, and CVI(full names at the bottom- don't feel like spelling it all out).   We are doing pretty good, and hoping it will get better......

  • Hi!  I'm Sara.  I pop over here from time to time (I'm mainly on the multiples board).  Bennett & Kendyll were born at 32w6d; I was on strict bedrest for 9 weeks due to a shortened cervix and went into labor thanks to a UTI.  DS weighed 4lbs 4oz & DD 4lbs 7oz.  They were both on CPAP for 24hrs and DD needed a nasal cannual for a week, after that they were feeder/growers.  DD came home in 21 days and DS 26 days.  They are almost 8 mo actual age and doing very well.  DS is over 16lbs and DD is pushing 18lbs.
  • My DS was born at 27w5d.  I spent the two weeks prior to that in the hospital with PROM - due to severe polyhydramnios.  The polyhydramnios was due to unknown causes (although I suspect that it was related to DS having a small left kidney).  DS left the hospital on his due date (87 days total) and is doing wonderfully now.  He's almost 5 months chronologically and 8 weeks adjusted.
  • Hi ladies!

After 15 months of infertility I became pregnant with my boys by doing a round of injectible medicine and an IUI. I was hospitalized for a shortened cervix/pre-term labor at 26 weeks, and they were born at 30 weeks, due to preeclampsia, twin-twin-transfusion syndrome and preterm labor. One baby was in the NICU for 5 weeks, the other (smaller) baby was in the NICU for 8 weeks. They're 11 months old today, and doing really well!

  • Hi!

The reason why I'm here is in my siggy.

  • Hi!  I kind of lurk and ask questions.  I am currently on bed rest after going into PTL at 31 weeks, I wanted to be prepared for a preemie so I started hanging out here.  Luckily he hasnt come yet, I'm hoping I can hold out for a few more weeks!

  • I'm Katie.  I visit this board because my water broke a 24 weeks and I'm on hospital bedrest until I deliver.  We will be having a preemie so I frequent this board to see what others are going through.  This is our first baby so we have a lot to learn.

  • Hi I am Amber and just found this board due to the new format!  I have fraternal twin boys that were born at 34 weeks after 3 weeks of hospital bedrest due to PTL and pre-e.  They were in the NICU for 2 and 7 weeks and are now doing well at almost 7 months!  I wish I found this board sooner!!  But I am glad to be here now!
  • I came here when I was diagnosed with IUGR at 28 weeks.  Then, I realized that I'd be having a preemie so I wanted to learn about what it's like to have a preemie and what to expect with having a child in the nicu.  Now that DS was born, I'm here to give/get support and continue to learn.  All of you ladies are the greatest!  I've learned boatloads of info and I am grateful for that.
  • Hello,

I am Christina and I am new to this board...My son is Nathaniel Alexander...He was born at 33 weeks 5 days, and is currently still in the NICU at John's Hopkins in Baltimore, MD...I am here to learn about taking care of my preemie son when he comes home...

  • Hi, I'm Allison in Northern VA. Our DS, Avery, was born at 33 weeks, and 3 lb and 5 oz, last Februrary.  I developed pre-eclampsia and had an emergency C-section after I started to have lung failure.  DS suffered from IUGR so he measured more like a 30 weeker.  He was on CPAP for 12 hours, room air for abour 5 days and under the billirubin lights for a week.  He spent 24 days in the NICU as a grower/feeder.  Avery turns 8 months old tomorrow.  He was growing quicker than he is now (he'd almost gotten to 10th percentile and now is down to 3rd), so we're adding oils to his foods and working on weight gain.  He's had no major problems and is starting to catch up developmentally.  We were also able to successfuly breastfeed after 7 weeks of trying and am still nursing so please page me if you'd like advice about how to get your preemie to nurse.

The one good thing about being a preemie parent is that we'll never take becoming parents or our son for granted.  Every acheivement (from graduating high school to learning to stick his tongue out) is and will be a celebration!

  • Hi, my name Rachael.  My DS was born at 33 w 0d due to completely unexpected PROM.  He was in 4lbs 11 oz at birth and stayed in the NICU for 12 days.  He is currently 17 months old and doing great!!!
  • I'm Brenda, DS born at 34 weeks due to IUGR and my high bp, no pre-e.  Spent 11 days in NICU and is doing fantastic.

  • Ok, you asked for lurkers...

I'm a medical student with a strong interest in neonatology. I like reading all of your stories, seeing your blogs, and finding out about the NICU experience from the family's perspective. I hope you don't mind or think I'm being invasive... I'm just trying to learn to be the best doctor I can be.

Gosh, I sure am the oddball on here!

  • I'm Dawn... my ds was highly stressed in utero, not getting enough nutrients from the cord & I was losing fluids.  He was born at 28 weeks but measured 24 weeks.   He spent 94 long days in the NICU.  He's 14 1/2 months old and almost one year (adjusted).  Crawling, pulling himself up, eating everything in sight & doing super. :)

  • Hi! I'm Laura and my surprise fraternal twin sons Cameron and Evan were born at 28wks 6days due to IUGR and full reversal of blood flow through his umbilical cord for Evan.  Both boys are considered micro-preemies, though Evan was a Very Low Birth Weight baby (less than 1200 grams) and was 1lb 7oz at birth while Cameron was a whopping 2lbs 14oz.  They spent 68 days in the NICU and Cameron did come home on oxygen (he's finally off of it now).  Evan was only 3lbs 8oz when he came home with no problems.

Today Cameron is 10lbs and Evan is almost 9lbs.  They are doing great except that we have a lot of physical therapy to work on gross and fine motor skills.

You can read our full story with pics in my blog (see siggie).

  • I am mostly a lurker.  I have 2 boys the first (Noah) was thanks to clomid and IUIs he was born at 37 weeks (Full-term) but spent a few days in the NICU for temerature issues.  My youngest (Jacoby) was born at 36 weeks (barley a preemie) he only spent 9 hours in the NICU for observation.  He did have some feeding issues but we were able to work with him on that on the maternity floor.  He was required to spend the night (basically the only time I was asleep and alone) in the well baby nursery so they could monitor his breathing and temerature.  He will be 1 in 2 weeks and has been walking for almost a month already!

  • I am Sara. My DS was born at 34w 3 days and spent 11 days in the NICU. I was on 8 1/2 weeks of bedrest due to unexplained preterm labor. I was on procardia until 34 weeks and once the doctor took me off I was in labor 24 hours later. I ended up having placenta abruption.

  • Hello, I'm Gabby. I was admitted into the hospital at 25 weeks because of very low amniotic fluid. I was released on bed rest at 27 weeks, then 4 amnioinfusions and 7 weeks later my water broke and I delivered at 34 weeks and 2 days. The doctors still can't figure out what caused the low fluid. My DD spent 8 days in the NICU and is now home on oxygen, she will be a month old next Monday! I was hesistant to visit this board before she was born although I knew she would be a preemie, but now I'm here everyday. I find the support I need from people that can understand.
  • I am Sara (there seems to be a lot of Sara (h)s on this board)... anyway my twins were born at 33 wks 6 days due to PROM and Bella was in the NICU for 18 days and Jack was in for 21 days.
  • Hi my name is Kylee, I just found this board because of the new format. My Son was born at 36 weeks after 2 weeks of hospital bed rest due to PIH. He weighed 4 lbs 14 oz and spent 6 days in the NICU. He is now 4 months old and weighs 13 lbs.

  • I'm Trish. Mom to Robbie- born at 26w2d @ 1lb 7 oz due to Sudden Severe Pre-E.

I'm here because I live in seclusion due to germ phobia and the internet is the only adult interaction I get. *LOL*

  • I am Erin. Live in San Diego, and my bg was born just shy of 36 weeks. They couldn't determine a reason. I guess she was just feeling cramped in there. :-) She only had only to be in the Special Care Unit for 6 days.?
  • I'm Tiffany. My son was born at 27 weeks 3 days, after 6 weeks of hospital bedrest, due to PROM and a partial placental abruption. He's 3 weeks old and doing well in the NICU. I usually hang out on the Multiples board because I have 3 year old identical twin girls, (Ironically, they were born full term.)
  • I am Karen. I am here because I was pregnant with twins. I had PROM on baby a at 19 1/2 weeks and lost her a week later. I surprisingly held onto baby b and was on bedrest until 26 weeks and 1 day when I delivered him via emergency c-section because he was going into distress from the other baby's placenta still being in me. After spending 12 weeks in the NICU he came home almost 2 weeks ago and is doing well. He was born weighing 1 pound 14 ounces and today weighs 6 pounds 11 ounces.
Conceived twins with IVF January 2008. Lost baby a at 20 1/2 weeks due to premature rupture of membranes and held onto baby b. Baby b (Brandon) born at 26 weeks and 1 day on July 5, 2008. • I'm Jeni...my DDs are twins who were born at 30 weeks due to an emergency cerclage at 21 weeks, 3 weeks of hospital BR and then 6 weeks of strict BR at home.  THe girls are FINALLY home after 13 1/2 weeks in the NICU. Other than chronic lung disease there is nothing really wrong with my girls besides regular preemie issues...now I'm living in fear of RSV. :(
  • im Jennifer, i have one son Rowen Alexander. he was born at 30 weeks 3lbs 13 oz 14 1/4" due to...hmmm a combo of stress from my husband breaking his back (i went into labor in the ER with him) and an infection in my placenta.

he is 20 months old, a big ol' chunky monkey at 32lbs and gets into everything. he has asthma from prematurity and a few developmental delays.

  • I'm Corey and have 2 little girls.  My oldest was born at 33 weeks after 10 weeks of bedrest and my second daughter was born this past April at 26 weeks.  She spent 90 days in the NICU and has been home a little over 2 months now.  I come on this board to see how to survive at home with my baby on oxygen, an apnea monitor, and a pulse ox monitor to lug around.  It inspires me to hear all of your stories and know that this too will pass!

  • OMG, who knew there were so many of us. And are we all named Sara?! Wink

I am also Sara. My DS, Marino, was born at 32 weeks, due to sudden HELLP and pre-eclampsia. Marino spent 4 weeks in the NICU and another 2 weeks in the PICU the next month for GBS/sepsis/meningitis. We're basically on quarantine here until Nov, so I love having this board to connect with other preemie moms!!

  • My name is Denise and I had my DS Evan at 25 weeks.  He weighed 1 lb 12 ounces and was in the NICU for 3 months.  He is now 14 months actual age and doing great!  His occupational and physical therapist were just at our house and said that he is really closing in on the gap for his adjusted and actual age!
  • Hello I am Kristi, DS was born at 27 weeks due to my sever eclamsia.  He spent 76 days in the NICU and has been home a little over a month and doing great!
  • i am karyn...my twin boys were born by emergency c-section at 34 weeks 6 days due to TTTS and baby b's water breaking.  they spent 26 days in the nicu...a week on c-pap and then just feeding and growing issues.  they came home together on father's day of this year.  they are 4 months 2 weeks actual age now and little chunks--it is hard to believe feeding was ever an issue! i usually just lurk here and the multiples board.
  • Im Laura.. my son gavin was born at 34weeks. I went into labor at 23 weeks but with the help of meds, and strict  bedrest we held off.
