Tragic - 6 month baby and SIDS

My aunt told me this week that she went to a funeral of a friend who's baby died at 6 months old.  The baby was home with the nanny and when the dad came home from work, the baby wasn't breathing in the crib.  At first when she told me this story, I was thinking Benadryl!  But they reviewed the nanny cam and there was nothing that she did wrong and so they're thinking it was SIDS.  The nanny help raise their other two older kids and they trust her fully.  I just can't even imagine the pain the family is going through right now.

Last night I was rocking Ally to sleep and started tearing up just imagining not having her in my life.  I held her tight and couldn't stop  kissing and smelling her head.

  • Just curious, why would you think Benadryl?

My first thought is vaccines, when did the child last receive their shots?  That's my thoughts.  I don't want to get into a vaccine argument with anyone, so I will leave it at that.

And yes it is tragic and horrifying to think of.  I feel sorry for those parents and I am also over protective of my child because of family I've known that have lost children to SIDs.

  • I thought benadryl because I have read a handful of horror stories where nannies/care providers would give kids and babies benadryl so they can go to sleep and stay asleep longer.

Not sure about the vaccination, but my aunt said that the dad is a Dr and so it's probably anything medical like that?  I have no idea, and she doesn't want to ask them any questions right now because what they're going through a lot already.
