Danny's Birth Story (Pretty Long &PsIP)

On Sunday we were at my FILs house for dinner,  I started having contractions around 2pm but only a few here and there... by 3:30 my contractions picked up to about 6 minutes apart, they were more like back pains than anything. We went home around 6pm, even stopped to get ice cream on the way home (which is still in the freezer waiting for me to eat). By 6:30 the contractions were wrapping around my back and shooting across my belly and they had gotten to be 4-5 minutes apart... I decided that I really was in labor but wanted to labor at home for awhile, by 8pm the contractions were getting pretty painful so I decided to call the on call OB to ask if I should come in yet (they told me yes to get my butt in there).

I got to the hospital at 9pm and got checked, I was at 3cm and 90% just like I had been at my last appointment, I was a tad discouraged because the contractions had gotten to be about 2-3 minutes apart and were getting very painful. After walking the halls for an hour I was checked again at 10pm and I was 4+cm and 100%. So they admitted me and sent me over to my room, they made me use the bathroom and my water broke as I was trying to pee for the last time before they put in my epidural. By 10:15 they had my epidural in, it sucked compared to the spinal and it didn't work all that well. By the time I was pushing it had almost completely worn off...

My nurse came in at 3am to check me, I was only at 4cm still... She was in the room checking my BP and doing some other things when suddenly I had a LOT of pressure and she decided to check me again even though it had only been about 10 minutes since she last checked me. I was fully dilated!!! At this point DH had went down to the lobby to find his sister so I had to call his cell phone and tell him to get his butt back to the room ASAP. They had me do a few practice pushes and decided to let me labor down for awhile... 

At 4am the resident OB came in and got me to start pushing, after each round of pushing his heart rate would drop and they would make me roll on my side... After 3 hours of pushing they finally brought in my OB and they broke down the bed, she was going to try to VAC... but I asked if I could push a little longer because I felt like I could do it without it, all of the nurses though I was insane for wanting to push more after already pushing for so long. So DH grabbed one leg and my Mom grabbed the other and I pushed with everything I had... About 4 contractions later Daniel John came into the world. 8lbs 1.5oz and 19 3/4" long. 

They took him right over to the little bed thing rather than laying him on my tummy and I started to panic, I was asking everyone in the room what was going on because he was not crying or making any noise and nurses seemed to be really "working" on him... My mom and DH kept telling me he was fine and that they were just getting him suctioned out, then the nurse told me that we could hold him for a few minutes then they were going to need to take him to the nursery for an hour or two. The nurse wrapped him and and handed him to DH and DH brought him over to me, when DH put him in my arms all the pain and fear melted away... I completely forgot about the Dr's working away at me. It turns out that Danny's cord was wrapped rather tightly around his neck so the OB had to do an episiotomy and get him out quickly (I didn't know she has even done it until after and they were stitching me up).

Other than that things have been going pretty smoothly, he's a good baby!! They even let us come home yesterday afternoon, he got released yesterday morning and they didn't release me until 5pm yesterday afternoon... but we are home now, just resting and recovering!!
