Do you ever talk to your pets like they are people? Like..you kind of forget that they aren't people?
I do this all of the time. ![]()
Two examples from tonight:
I was making pasta and after I drained it, when I went to dump it back in the pan, one piece fell out on the floor. Gabby was right there to gobble it up and I was all "Gabby! Be careful! That's hot!"...
I went to let the dogs out into the backyard, thinking my keys were near the back door. They dogs got all excited and started jumping at the door when I realized my keys were still up in the front of the house..."Hold on guys..I gotta grab the keys from the foyer."...
I mean, really Madelyn? They are dogs.
Please tell me I'm not alone.

I do that!
Like just now, Higgins is using my leg as a pillow and I had to go the bathroom so I just said, "Higgins, I have to go the bathroom, but I promise that I will be right back."
Umm did I really just need to tell him that???
TTC since 12/06, PCOS w/ Endo & MFI - 3 Laps - 3 IVF's - 1 FET - 1 ectopic - 1 c/p - gearing up for IVF#4
My Fav Thing about Spring is Easter Candy!
ALL.THE.TIME. DH and I even refer to ourselves as momma and poppa with the cats. "Come here Mackey, sit with momma".
Tonight I was brushing some clump's out of Fluffy's fur and was saying, "Oh, Fluffy, I'm so sorry this hurts, but you'll get a treat if you let me finish." Crazy right? I'm trying to rationalize with my cat and promising a treat if he's good. I think the only word he understood was "treat". So ridiculious!

I don't really care that I do it, because, well, they are awesome and I love them to pieces but sometimes I catch myself and wonder if I'm sane.
MrsP--I feel like I always have to reassure Wrigs that I'm not going anywhere...I swear, our dogs ARE the same.

I do this all the time. If Im talking to them really loud BF reminds me that the windows are open and we have neighbors (who cares?) The storm tonight reminds me of this -
A few months ago the girls had to pee around bedtime and it was raining really hard, all of a sudden BF says Sh*t! I left the gate open! I ran outside in my pajamas in the rain, I didnt see them and Im running around the yard screaming at the top of my lungs My Babies!!!! My Baaaabbbbbies!! over and over again. All of a sudden they come around the corner, at the same time all of my neighbors lights go on. Im sure they think Im a freak (once again who cares!) When we came in he just looked at me really weird and said "Good Lord, did you hear yourself?"
I'd be curious to hear what kind of secrets Ruby has
ha ha! so funny that our pets are like little people to us!
bwahaha!! this is the best!
luckily all of my neighbors are as dog crazy as I am so it works out well

Both my DH and I do this all the time. When I am alone with them I actually hold conversations with them. I consult them on what I want for lunch, what I should wear to work, if I should answer when my Mom is calling me.
My DH likes to yell at them like they understand what he is saying. Like " Wallace put down the sponge, you are going to get all backed up again like two summers ago you idiot." It makes me laugh.
This. And I find myself talking "for" the dogs too... "momma, I gots to go potty" when they're sitting by the door. Seriously, what is wrong with me?
Well Mrs.P I am glad you asked. Most of the time she tells me she doesn't like things that DH does. Or sometimes she tells me she thinks DH should give me backrubs. But always that she likes me better but doesn't want to tell DH. lol I am a nut job I know.
With Raven, yes and I think she truly understand most of what I am saying. There is a long laundry list of words we can not say in front of her. Even if we aren't talking to her. I was on the phone with my mom the other day and said "I just really havent been HUNGRY lately and haven't felt like EATING". Raven went from being sound asleep to bazerk.
With Puddin (the cat) I talk to her in french. Not sure why! She def get the gist of "Allez, vite!" its either that or the water bottle I hold in my hand when I say it
this story is hilarious!
Callan George and Bennett Charles born and died 11/7/10

Living After Losing
Haha!! That's my dogs too...when we talk about feeding them we say "nutritionalize" and when we lived in the condo and talked about taking them out for walks to potty we said "mobilize"...we absolutely can not say "eat", "food", "hungry", "dinner", "out"...without them all going nuts.
TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs
ha! I am totally laughing out loud at this!!
Oh yeah! Eat, hungry, walk, ride, ice cream, cookie, treat, grandma, emma, uncle dev dev, swim, boat, and toy. I'm sure there are more words. There are a lot of phrases like "Do you want to..." "Daddy is home", "Where is Grandma?" I also can not even possibly look like I may be thinking about picking up my walking shoes, her leash, life jakets, snow coat or running jacket.

I love this thread!
We have to spell a lot of words in front of our dogs too -- walk, out, treat, dinner, bed.
Ha! Glad I could provide laughter. DH always gives me this look & I say you wouldn't understand it's girl talk. She can only tell me secrets. lol
My DH and I often talk to our cats! Sometimes if the cats have done something like puked too much or jumped on the counter...my DH will say to me ``can you talk to them?``...DH will laugh while I give the cats a pep talk! LOL!
Also when I go to bed I tell 1 of my cats because i know that she will be at the door scratching to come once i fall asleep if she does not follow my
e then!!!
Pets are great! They are an extension to our families!!
omg - we can't even SPELL car or walk in front of my dog. She knows both of them.
oh, and cookie. She knows when we spell cookie too.

oh..this isn't normal?
because I don't know any OTHER way to talk to them
.... and OMG, add DH into the mix and it's Daddy this.... daddy that. I talk to mine the exact same way and I LOVE it. They really are my kids, I even grab Bella B's little face and kiss her all over and say ommm nom nom nom nom

Ha ha! I totally do this.
The worst is DH has caught me saying "Now, Bean, you know we've talked about this..." more than once.
He thinks it's hilarious that I try to rationalize with them.....
I crazylove them.
The two of you crack me up! And no you are SOOO not alone on this!
