WWYD Pedi prescribed Reglan ...

We've been trying for weeks to try to get LO's AR under control, just went back today and pedi prescribed Reglan.  I'm not sure I want him taking it with all of the law suits popping up, but I also know adults that are on it and they're fine ... not sure that's a chance I want to take with LO though.  Thoughts??

Re: WWYD Pedi prescribed Reglan ...

  • Maybe do some research into alternative medications. Even doctors aren't always aware of ALL the options and tend to prescribe what they are familiar with (which makes sense I guess). You may also want to look for a second opinion.

  • I had some scary reactions to it while I was pregnant (an ER doc prescribed it to me after I came in dehydrated from morning sickness)--I personally would NOT give it to my child but that is based on my personal experiences--i agree w/ pp, ask if there are any other alternative meds and if not seek a second opinion

  • I was on it for a little bit when I was pregnant (for morning sickness). It actually started making my mouth like, droopy and I would drool and slur my words. Two days of that and I thought it was Reglan and I stopped.... and it went away. I wouldn't give it to LO!!

  • I had a pretty bad reaction to Reglan, and I would not want my child to take it.  I would definitely get a second opinion.  There are many other medications that can treat AR.
  • I don't know anything about giving it to a baby but I was on it to increase my milk supply. I was VERY tired and restless (so I was exhausted but couldn't fall asleep). Right after I stopped taking it, I was fine.
