I am looking to possibly change daycares to save $ when I return to teaching in August. My daycare has been near home, but not ON my way to work (drive in the opposite direction from work about 5 minutes to get there). I am trying to keep myself open to in-homes near work and near home to have more options, but I was hoping to hear opinions from people who have done both about pros&cons!
Thanks!

Debated a while about it. I wanted him close by my work so I could bf and also it would be close by in case of emergency and near pedi's office. In the end we went with one by home. I would not want him stuck in a car longer than he has to be and this way DH can pick him up easy as well.
That said, if we did not find a suitable provider by home, I would not be too upset to have him by my work.
DH and I work at the same campus and daycare is near our office. We chose that location because they had space and we liked the center. I love the daycare so I'm not planning on moving them, but there are some days it would be nice if daycare was closer to home. For instance, I work 3 days a week and can work one of those days from home. However, I wind up going into the office a lot because it's just easier if I need to drop of DDs. Also, if I want to take them in on days I don't work, it's a longer trek. However, it's only 20 minutes away, and mainly against traffic, so it's not a big deal.
On the good side, I think having daycare closer to work is good for them because it gets them used to riding in the car and they are pretty content passengers. Also, it's nice to be able to stop by and visit at lunch or take them over to work if something special is going on.

Ours is near home. Dh and I both commute 30+ minutes a day, in opposite directions. We live in a suburb of Dallas, but both work in Dallas. Traffic can be horrible and I couldn't imagine having a screaming baby in the backseat of the car, in bumper to bumper traffic. The commute would have been too much for her.
Another reason we chose to keep her close to home is if one of us is ever sick, we don't have to worry about driving 30 minutes to daycare and then another 30-60 to work. We also have friends that live close to us that can pick her up if there is ever an emergency.
Our DC is 5 minutes from our house. I commute 45 minutes to work but I also travel throughout my day to variouse sites so I don't start and end my day at the same site so I couldn't have a DC near my work. DH works about 15 minutes from home/DC which is nice if he needs to rush there fro some reason.
I commute 40 mins to work (country hwy driving, not freeway driving), and my DC is next door to my work. I didn't like the thought of being so far from him should an emergency occur.
Sure enough, 1 week in, he developed pink eye and I was called out of work to go get him and take him to the doctor. I'm glad I was that close.
