BF/pumping Advice Please :)

For those that have done it or know about it... LOL.

I tried to BF my DD - it didn't go too well so I pumped for 6 weeks then moved on to formula. I am hoping BF works this time but if it doesn't I'll pump again (AND even if it does work I will have to pump at work...)

So here's my question- What are the breastshields used for that you can get with the pumps?? When I pumped all I did was put my ta-ta in that vacuum cone shaped thing... was I pumping wrong the whole time?? I had the Medela Single Deluxe (I know it is not the best pump- I hated it) and it would take me about 40 minutes to get 4 oz. I would really like to have a better experience this time around.

Re: BF/pumping Advice Please :)

  • I am renting the Medela Sympony 2.0 from our hospital and I pumped this morning for 15 minutes and got 175ML. Sorry I don't do ounces. Yet.?

I love this pump. I have my own Lansinoh pump but the LC said to use it when I go to work and rent this one to get a supply of milk. Its working. I have about 25 feedings in my fridge right now.

?As far as pumping, it sounds like you are doing it right unless I am doing it wrong as well. LOL??

  • 4 ounces at 6 weeks is really good.  At least for me it would be.  I usually only get 4 ounces now and my son is 3 months old.  Your supply will increase as your baby gets older.  Btw, I have an Ameda Purely Yours pump and I like it.  Although I haven't tried any other kind, so I can't really compare.
