Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Would you be pissed?

My coworker (who I share a half-wall with) that I posted about yesterday, who was sick "with a cold" for a month but finally went to the doctor and was diagnosed with viral meningitis, is back at work today.  She was just diagnosed yesterday but claims that her doctor told her she wasn't contagious anymore.

First, I'm pissed that she was sick for that long before going to the doctor.

Second, I don't buy it that she's magically not contagious anymore less than 24 hours after being diagnosed.

She got a chilly reception from me & my other cube neighbor - we both have kids under 1 year old.  She got all pissy "if it makes you feel better I'll go home!!!!" etc.

Re: Would you be pissed?

  • I try not to get pissed over other people's stupidity; there's just too much of it in the world.

Just take precautions to keep yourself healthy.

  • Is she insane?

Enteroviruses, the most common cause of viral meningitis, are most often spread through direct contact with respiratory secretions (e.g., saliva, sputum, or nasal mucus) of an infected person. This usually happens by shaking hands with an infected person or touching something they have handled, and then rubbing your own nose or mouth. The virus can also be found in the stool of persons who are infected. The virus is spread through this route mainly among small children who are not yet toilet trained. It can also be spread this way to adults changing the diapers of an infected infant. The incubation period for enteroviruses is usually between 3 and 7 days from the time you are infected until you develop symptoms. You can usually spread the virus to someone else beginning about 3 days after you are infected until about 10 days after you develop symptoms.

  • oh, HELLS yeah I'd be pissed. I would tell my boss I'm working from home unless they send her home.

  • I wouldn't be pissed.  I would use it as an excuse for myself to go home.  If she wants to be at work so badly, then I'd go home!
  • Yes and ignore her whiney attitude. She needs to grow up.

I had the flu last year and worked from home after my fever broke even though I wasn't contagious anymore b/c I knew my office mates would be weird about me coming back since I was in the hospital at one point.

  • Heck yeah. And I would probably 'tell' on them and talk to HR.
  • Yes, I would and I would try to move to a conference room or somewhere else until she leaves.

    She is very inconsiderate.

  • and then I'd bathe in Purell and Lysol.

  • "I would feel better... go home ***!"

     * Swannja realizes that response is completely not office appropriate

  • Yes, I would be PISSED. That can be fatal to an infant. Call your pedi and find out what precautions need to be taken to protect E.
  • I would consider bringing it up to your supervisor or HR.  If she's contagious with an illness of that manner, she should not be at work.
  • I defintely would, and I'd probably tell my boss I either need to go home or she does until she's really better. It's sooo dangerous for babies! I hate it when anyone sick comes into work knowing full well they should be home, then the rest of us just get sick.
  • Yes I would be very pissed. The stupidity of some people amazes me.

  • I would be very unhappy. I hate it when people who are obviously sick and need to be at home come to work anyways. It is inconsiderate and selfish. I would talk to my boss or HR about it if possible. She needs to go home, or you do.
