3rd Trimester

How far past your due date will your dr. let you go?

Mine said 12 days!!! I am a bit surprised by this, but maybe it is the norm.  I really hope it doesn't get to that point though!

  • 2 weeks if everything looks alright.
  • 41.5 weeks.  I wish it was longer, honestly.  As much as i don't want to be pregnant at that point, if the baby and placenta are doing well then there's no reason to induce, in my opinion.

2 weeks the 1st time around & for second or more time moms they like to only let you go 1 wk.
  • 11 days.  My M/W says that after 11 days or so, the risk of complications increase due to the quality of the placenta diminishing.

  • I don't know what her normal practice is, but for me personally she mentioned only allowing me to go a few days past my due date.  I interpreted it to mean 3 or 4.

  • They will induce the week after my due date. I'm due on July 9th, and they will induce no later than the 16th.

  • unless there is a problem with the baby or the placenta, i will not be medically induced at any point. babies come when they are ready to come. forcing them out before they are ready to come is not desirable for me.

  • 2 weeks- I know I won't be happy about it at 40 weeks, but I'm glad they have this policy because I'm a big believer in letting the baby decide when to be born.  That being said, the six days I went past my due date last time were no fun Smile
  • I asked my OB this at my last appt, and he said "not even a week." Not very specific but at least I won't be 41 weeks.

  • They wont induce before 2 days after DD and wont let you go past 10 days past DD. They already scheduled me (yes at 37 weeks) for 3 days post DD just in case.

  • It depends.  If I get to 41wks we start discussing a repeat c/s (I'm a VBAC hopeful).  That could mean scheduling, that could mean NSTs.  My MW will not induce for VBACs.

  • She's comfortable with 1 week. She'd let me go 2 if I really wanted but I'd have to come see her everyday which I'm really not into. If I've gotta go see the dr everyday, I may as well just be in the hospital having my LO!

  • I haven't asked yet, but a friend at the same practice was going to be induced 5days after if she hadn't gone into labor 4days past.

  • One week.

My due date is a Saturday and if I go past it, I'll push for the induction to happen on the following Friday, which would only be 6 days.

  • 2 weeks.. pretty standard.  I will gladly go 2 weeks over with this one to avoid another induction.  I'd like this one to be born when he/she is ready (I was induced at 11 days past my due date last time and sometimes wish I'd waited longer.)
  • a day or two past 42 weeks if the baby (and placenta, and amniotic fluid) are doing fine.
  • PS to the OP - It looks like we're probably delivering at the same hospital, seeing your location! :)  I loved it last time!
  • Usually about a week after.

  • They start talking induction once you have passed 41 weeks.

  • They will not let me go past 41 weeks. But they also said that it is up to me in that 7 day period when I want to induce.

  • We won't talk about it until 42 weeks as long as everything is still looking healthy.

I'll go in for a ultrasound/NST tomorrow (1 week past EDD)

I'm not sure when the next one is scheduled. Hopefully LO will come before then!

I do not want to be induced.

  • When I asked a few weeks ago I was told 7 days, however I just found out my baby is in the 95th percentile for weight so I'm not sure if they will let me go that long..only time will tell I guess...

  • Oh too funny! Yes, I was there last time too and it was a great experience! I guess I won't be seeing you there though, you have a few more weeks to go : )  Good Luck to you!
  • Mine will let me go to 42 weeks, barring complications.

  • 2 weeks with my first. I had an induction scheduled at 42 weeks with Annalise and went into labor at 41w3d.

I ended up with a c-section after failure to progress and am attempting a vbac this time. Technically my OB won't let me go past my due date now. I think we're going to schedule my c-section for 40w2d (a Friday) if I don't go into labor before that.

  • Mine let me go 9 days past due with DD and since she was consequently born at 9lbs this baby will likely be induced a week before my due date depending on the ultrasound next month.
  • 7-10 days. Mine is scheduled for next Wednesday (at 41 weeks) if nothing happens in the mean time.
  • The MW birth center I'm at will let you go up to 42 weeks.

  • After 40 weeks it is up to me.  After 41 weeks, it is still up to me as long as the tests are clear and LO looks good.  At 41 weeks 6 days it becomes my OB's call.
