What do you do with your newborn when you play outside? This might sound like a dumb question, but DS is 3 1/2 and loves to run, kick the ball, look for bugs, etc. Some of this stuff you just can't do while holding a newborn. Do you just watch your older children play? Do you put the newborn in a carseat or PNP or bouncy chair in a safe spot in the backyard? Sling? What works best to keep LO safe and content while indulging older children and their play needs?
Re: Moms with other small kiddos (outdoor play)?
I bring the monitor out if he's napping in his crib.
Sling if I want to keep him covered up (ie: if we might be in the sun).
Bouncy or travel swing on the deck if it's in the shade (and the sling's too hot), but then I can't really go very far with DD.
Just depends.
I plan on using the bouncy seat under a sun shade. Or the Moby wrap. A friend of mine told me to just put baby in a diaper in the sling or else he'll get too hot. We went to a small gathering bday party Saturday morning where we were outside. We kept DS in car seat under a tree for about 45 minutes. Then it started getting hot, so DH and I took turns for another hour sitting inside with him. Luckily, so far, I've had help with either DH, mom, or inlaws so they've kept DS1 entertained - he's an almost 3-year-old total boy, so i know what you are going through needing to get him outside!
