I know many of you do cloth diapers, but for those who use sposies, does your diaper genie smell? Everytime you open the lid to put in another diaper, yikes! I'm thinking of maybe pouring some baking soda in there. Has anyone else had this issue?
Hm, we have an old diaper genie that was a hand-me-down from a friend and it doesn't have any odors. We only notice that it'll smell sometimes when we open the bottom to take out the bag to dispose of it, but it never smells when we just open the lid to throw in another diaper. Maybe it's because we go through *a lot* of diapers a day so we have to start a new bag fairly often? Maybe it gets smellier with time...
I don't even use a diaper genie, just a plastic diaper pail (I'd eventually like to replace it with a diaper genie or a metal pail because odors are absorbed into the plastic over time).
It doesn't really smell, but I do sprinkle baking soda into it about once a week - I don't shake it out until I empty the pail so that it has as long as possible to do it's odor-absorbing work.
We have the diaper genie and it does smell. Although, we have had it for nearly three years now. When we go on vacation I will leave it open to air out, but it still smells bad the next time we use it. Now that DD is mostly potty trained we hardly use it and I am thinking of just getting rid of it.
