TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Applying to jobs online...

I have been applying to jobs online and getting nothing.  How do I show them I'm interested other than by applying? There are no contact persons, so should  I be calling HR or something? I'm new to this kind of job search and the only way to apply is online of submitting your resume to some generic email address. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • I am in the same boat as you.  I think a lot of employers that do online applications only want people to apply online so they don't get flooded with letters, emails and phone calls.  I have applied for dozens of jobs over the last few months over the internet and haven't heard back from hardly any of them.  Sometimes they will write back and say that they have selected another candidate and I have only gotten a couple of interviews.  The whole process sucks.  Good luck on your job search!

  • I work on the other side of the table from what you are referring to. One of the reasons for this is because it gets your name into the companies hiring tool. I know my company requires you to apply online as that kicks off the internal tools required to make a hire. It also helps the recruiters sort through resumes. Also depending upon the size of the company there's a high liklihood HR has nothing to do with the actual hiring, its a recruiter's job. So to that end I would advise against calling HR unless you know its a small company. Another tip is to list out EVERY SINGLE skill you can think of. Most recruiters, when searching for resume's, do word searches. So they will run a search solely on particular skills they are looking for. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'd be happy to help.

    ok! :)

  • I've done two major job searches in the last five years, and it's all been online. It works, but I agree, it's strange to just be sending to a generic email.
