Bay Area Childcare Costs?

Hi, I am trying to do a budget for when our increased costs will be once the baby arrives. I am a member of Berkeley Parents Network, but the email updates don't seem to have any $ tied to the childcare posts. I will stay home for the first six months, then we plan to try and get a nanny or nanny share for 3 days a week. Any idea on the going rate for nanny's per hour around here? What about small in-home options?

Obviously dependent on the area...but I'm in the North Bay and in-home daycare runs between 35-50 per day (used to be $50 for pretty much everyone but the recession affected most of the small in-home centers in my area). For a nanny in my area, it's between 12-15 and hour. I haven't looked into nanny shares in my area.

I am in the east bay and a nanny would cost anywhere from 18-25 dollars an hour on average.

Our DD is in an east bay In-Home day care and it runs $45/day for us.

Right, but within neighbordhoods and cities the prices will vary significatly, like real estate.

I found a place in Castro Valley for $30 a day... in San Ramon, I pay $45 a day... there's a whole range.

You can find a nanny for under $18 in Berkeley. College students run $14-17 and I've seen experienced nannies within that range as well. We found ours through baysupersitters.com
