Let's talk home cleaning products

I'm a total ho for my shark pocket steam mop...but...for the times when you really need to spray and scrub something (like the stove/kitchen, bathroom etc...) what are you going to use that isn't harsh and fumie your kids. I have a bleach spray but it bothers me so never mind using it for when the babies come.

Anyone using Method brand cleaning supplies or something like it?

Tell us what you're doing...

  • I've used the Method products and wasn't really impressed. I like the Clorox Green Works line and the Mrs Meyers products.

Green works smells nice, but I think the Mrs. Meyers are more eco-friendly.

Thank you!! I'm writing those both down.

Hope you're doing well....not too much longer until you meet your boys!

  • I've been using the Clorox Greenworks.  I like them.  They clean well and don't have harsh fumes.  The Clorox Anywhere bleach is also nice.  It cleans just as well as bleach, but doesn't smell like bleach.

  • I doubt they are green, but sometimes I buy those Mr. Clean magic erasers.  They really are magic!

  • I like a lot of the Seventh Generation products.
  • Also, I make my own bath tub cleaner:

baking soda, vinegar, liquid soap and some water.  combine them until you get a pasty mixture.  works great!

  • I clean with 7th generation. They are all green products and work really well. The bathroom cleaner smells like thyme and is disinfecting. I don't want to use harsh stuff in our home.

  • We really love Method's tub & tile cleaner.

For the floors, I use hot water with castille soap and a little tea tree oil.  It's the best cleaning combination ever.

Windows/glass/mirrors, I use vinegar and water.

The Good Guide website is a great place to check out the "green" factor of products.  Not only the ingredients they contain, but the company's practices and how they treat their employees.

    Same here!

  • I love Method cleaners and buy the Clorox Greenworks all purpose cleaner.  I haven't bought any other but have made my own.

  • Windows and floors: vinegar & water

Scrubbing sinks/countertops/showers/etc.:  Baking soda with essential oils.

Cleaning drains: baking soda & vinegar & boiling water

When I want a scent, I use essential oils (SUPER fond of orange oil, fyi, tea tree, orange, and lavendar all have disinfecting properties as well).

I use Method sometimes and I use spray cleaner with bleach about once every two weeks on my white sink that won't whiten any other way.  I'm getting ready to try oxyclean on it, just to see if that works instead of bleach. . . We've tried a lot of products but few work better than homemade.

  • I use vinegar and water for almost everything.  I have one bottle of chlorox green, just for anything that has stuck on mildew, like the grout in the shower.  But that's only when it gets really difficult - mostly vinegar works fine on that too.
