38wks, not engaged, anyone's baby still drop?

I'm at 38 wks, will be 39 Friday, and baby is still "sky high" as my doctor says.  I'm 50-60% effaced and 1cm dilated.  Anyone have any successful vaginal birth stories when their baby was still very high just before their due date or just before delivery? Doctor says baby's size and my pelvic size both seem "normal" so hopefully that's not the issue.  Just getting nervous that baby is hanging out too high and won't ever drop!  Anyone able to provide some inspiration?

    is this a first or second baby? I've been told that with a second baby they rarely engage until labor.

    DS didn't drop until my water broke, and that was a first baby. I think it's still completely normal.

    it's a first baby. doctor said usually at this point first baby's are more engaged than mine is now.  still hoping...

    I'm glad you posted this -- I'm 38w1d and my baby is still pretty high. I haven't had an internal yet, though, so I have no idea as to effacement/dilation. I'm really hoping she drops soon, though!

    My 1st was up high at 38 weeks induction. 12 hours of labor, and only 15 minutes of pushing. Number 2 was 9 lbs (I'm only 5'1") and didn't engage until I was about 8 cm. I had to push a little to get him to come down. After that, about another 15 minutes, and he was out. Everyone is different. a lot of women experience this and go on to have normal deliveries.
