DD has AR and is currently on Prevacid. The Prevacid has helped with easing her pain from the AR, but she literally spits up puddles during every feeding and then continues to spit up until her next feeding. She started on Similac Advance and the doctor had us switch to Similac Sensitive Isomil Soy. She is still spitting up a ton and I don't know if any formula will help or if we just need to wait for her to grow out of it.
I plan on calling the doctor to ask if there is another formula we can try, but I wanted to check with you ladies first. What formula do you use and did it help reduce your LO spit up or did nothing help and are you just waiting for them to outgrow it?
Re: If your LO Spits up a Ton?
My LO is on Zantac, which works well, but I noticed him spitting up more, so I called and they adjusted his dose b/c he had gained weight. Has your little one gained any weight lately? I am sorry your little one is having to deal with this.
From what my son's GI Dr has said, Soy formula is one of the worst ones to put your LO if they have reflux. You may want to try Enfamil AR. (Ask her Dr first though.) It has added rice starch in it which makes it thicker and it sits heavier/longer in their stomach making it harder for them to spit up.
Zane went from breast milk to Enfamil Premium, to Enfamil AR, to Nutramigen, Nutramigen AA, Elecare and is now on Neocate. For him, finding the right medication and the right formula grossly improved his spitting up. He's still spitting up but that is because of the pylorus and that's going to have to right itself on it's own with time, but for now he's keeping enough food down to be able to gain weight. They've got him on half a Prevacid tab twice a day (to help with the reflux) along with the Neocate formula (for his milk protein allergy).
Your DD may be one of those who just need to outgrow the reflux if there is nothing else going on. Our GI Dr said that most babies start to outgrow reflux by the time they are spending more time upright, ie crawling, sitting up on their own, etc.
