Did anyone get these? Did you get an Ikea mattress for it? I'm afraid the mattress wont be supportive enough and its made of polyurethane foam. That sounds kind of ominous lol. I'm not entire sure what it is but was hoping someone could school me on ikea kid's bed and mattresses and all that. Thanks.

Re: Ikea toddler or twin beds
We don't have a kids bed, but we do have a queen sized bed from IKEA for our room. We are using a regular mattress. I didn't think that the IKEA mattresses looked like they'd last very long or be comfortable. The bed is 3 or 4 years old and has been taken apart moved across the state and we've had zero problems with it.
If you go with a twin bed, you should be able to fit a regular twin mattress in it.
We have a twin bed for my stepson and are using a regular twin mattress. With the bed base you buy with the bed, I would not go with anything thinner. And I will agree with the sharp edges/corners. DD naps in it and climbs out by herself with no problem but it is in her playroom and I'm just waiting for our first injury.
ETA: we also have a crib that converts to a toddler bed and that seems to have much less sharpness.
DS is in a twin bed now and he has to climb over the guard rail to get out. He has zero problems with it. We haven't had the time to sand down his guard rail yet, so it still has kind of sharp edges (it's a handmade bed and the rail is just a board). We do have a stool at the foot of the bed to help him.
Have you looked at the platform beds? The MALM twin isn't that high off of the ground, esp. since you don't have to use a box spring.
Someone posted about an IKEA reversible twin loft bed last month and we ended up buying the same one. We were originally going to put the bed on the high bunk setting and put the mattress on the floor, but decided to go ahead and use the low setting since we didn't want to move it in a few months. We bought a foam mattress--as long as it's thick enough and firm enough, I'm good with them. I can't remember the exact name, but we bought one that was about $250 there.

DS has been in the bed for exactly a week now and he's fallen out on pillows that we put on the floor 3 times and hardly wakes up. He seems to like it the bed. Oh--and it wasn't that hard to put together.
We also have a daybed set (Hemnes in white) that pulls into a king size bed (2 twin mattresses next to each other) for our guest room and I slept on it through my 3rd tri last time with no problems.
We have the extendable toddler bed. We bought the IKEA mattress to go with it for now since a regular crib mattress would not fit it. It does extend to a twin and we will use a regular twin mattress then. I don't worry about the support right now as DS is 30 lbs and the mattress is really no worse than his crib mattress.
My only complaint is the bedding problem. I am using twin sheets and bedding with the extra material tucked in. It looks a little funny, but works for now. We will probably make the bed a twin sometime in the next year or 2.
