So I just got back from the pedi and he *thinks* based on DDs symptoms (slight fever - @ pedis it was only 98.9, screaming when she is put down, screaming when we put her in the highchair, and hardly eating real foods) that she has the beginnings of hand, foot and mouth disease and that we should watch out for spots...her ears, throat and chest looked/sounded great...
So since it is a virus and there isn't much you can do besides let it run its course (and use tylenol/motrin)...I am wondering what was your experience with this virus if your LO had it? How long did it last? How long before your baby was back to their happy self? Just wondering how things progressed/cleared up from those with experience? TIA.
Re: Hand, foot & Mouth Disease?
DD had a very mild case of HFM a couple of weeks ago. We didn't even know that she had it until a bunch of other kids in her daycare class went home with it and we found a couple of blisters on her lip. Of course then she gave it to DH who did get pretty sick with it and was a HUGE baby about the whole thing.
DD had it last week. She had a pretty high fever last Saturday and Sunday, with a blister that developed on her lip on Sunday night. She wasn't interested in eating saturday, sunday or monday. She got a light rash on her bottom and a little on her legs, but her hands and feet had nothing. We took her in to confirm on Tuesday. For the remainder of the week, she was a little crankier than usual, but still relatively herself.
Side note, DH came down with a high fever on Thurs afternoon and developed a rash on Saturday, but otherwise has been ok.
DD had it a month ago and might (might) have it again right now (different strain).
She had a fever first (101), and then 3 days later a rash on her wrists and knees. Pretty soon the rash spread to her arms and legs, and then we noticed white spots on her tongue.
We confirmed it was HFMD when I got it. Nice, huh? My signs were more classic - blisters on hands and feet and on tongue.
It took about 5 days for her symptoms to go away. She was back to her happy self within about 3 days though. She never had any difficulty eating or drinking, though, so we were fortunate.
GL! From what I understand, it can be pretty mild or it can be crazy nightmare. And you're right - there's really nothing you can do.
