bumgenius 3.0 leaking through leg... help!

we just bought some bum genius 3.0 diapers and they seem to be leaking through the leg! i bought these so my husband can use cloth (he's scared of pf dipes, which is what i've been using up until now). i bought them all new, washed them, even did a rockin green soak. i put in the normal sized inserts as well, although they are not soaked when i remove them. i check the elastic on her thighs and it seems tight enough. the snaps are at the smallest setting, as she's only about 9.5 or 10lbs.

i'm super frustrated because i really need these to work! i invested a lot of money in them, and dh won't use prefolds!

I had the same problem with diapers when DD was that age. I think because they wet so much, they just need more to soak it up. There was a few weeks here and there where they wouldn't leak, but mostly I had issues. I found that folding up a small prefold inside worked wonders!!

That's something I'm concerned about to--my DH also is apprehensive of anything that isn't similar to using a disposable. When you say to put a prefold inside, are you talking about just laying it inside the diaper or actually putting it in the pocket? If you're putting it in the pocket, is that in addition to the two inserts?

I always just put it outside of the pocket. Trying to fit all of that inside was too much! It did solve all of my leaking problems : )

My DH is comfortable with fitted's. I'm not a fan of pockets or prefolds, tried both, but DH and I both agree that fitteds are the way to go, and they aren't too much extra work from disposables. He agrees to do whatever as long as he doesn't have to clean them!haha

I was thinking the same thing--DANG that's a lot of stuff to stuff in there!! Thanks for the tip! DH isn't fond of being a newbie at anything with his third child, so knowing as many tricks ahead of time should help keep him from jumping ship on me. LOL

If they are leaking less than 2 hours after you are putting them on her (with the regular larger insert in the pocket), I would say you have a fit issue and that they should fit much better in the next lb or 2.

If they are leaking after they have been on for 1.5-2+ hrs, they just need to be changed.

She's probably too little for them still. I know they say they fit newborns, but in reality they don't work well until your LO is 10-12lbs. Their little legs are just too skinny until then! Give them a try in a couple weeks and I bet you'll find they work great.

I agree with this. Our BGs didn't really fit DD until recently. Her legs were just too little!

I know you've already invested, but we had really good luck with Kissaluvs0 and Thirsties. Both are fitteds that need covers. We bought ours through Craigslist. Now we use our BGs as a main part of our rotation.

i figured she was still too little. i'll just keep using my prefolds and thirsties covers. i have a fuzzy bunz os, happy hiney os, and a couple aio bum genius that we haven't had any problems with...

guess at night she'll have to stay in disposables until she gets some chunk in her thighs
