CD Mommies

A few questions for you. I was given some cloth diapers. I had talked about wanted to switch to cd's, but H wasn't so excited about the price, so I backed off. Now that we have a few given to us, I'd like to try them.

Bad part is, I have no idea how to use them. I had looked at the Grobaby, and had only researched them.

We were given Thirsties and Bummis covers and a bunch of prefolds. My question is, is there a website that shows me how to use them? Any tips? I feel really stupid asking, but I really want this to work.

Thanks!

Re: CD Mommies

  • I would recommend some snappi's to keep the prefolds closed.  There are some videos here

  • She gave us some Snappi's too! =] Thanks ladies!

  • You're good to go then!  Good luck!  My DH says cloth diapering is easier than swaddling!
  • Well, I'm a master swaddler if I do say so myself Cool, so this should be a breeze. =]

  • Personally, I don't use snappis with my bummis prefolds. I kept scratching DS's legs and catching it on the changing table. Also, it made it harder to take off a dirty dipe so I just fold it the "hamberger" direction, stick it in the cover, use a disposable liner and it works great. We never have any leaks. Love it!

thirsties covers are great. I don't do prefolds so I can't help with that. We do fitteds (Mother Ease Sandy's) and we love them.

Remember it is an upfront investment with CD's but some can even be used through multiple kids (part of why we chose the Sandy's, many moms use them for many kids with wonderful luck) and they are fairly inexpensive.

They aren't super cute like some of the other ones but really you put a cover over them anyways. We use the thirsties sized covers.

If you have questions let me know.

Just remind your DH that you may spend $300 (or less) on diapering your DD but that is ALL you will spend, and you have less of a chance for diaper rash etc. Think of how many diapers you will buy before she potty trains, add it up and I guarantee it is more than $300 Wink

  • I love my prefolds.  There are definitely more expensive ways to go but for me the prefolds with a snappi and a thirsties cover work great.  The only thing I recommend is that if you work make sure that your daycare will work with you on the cloth diapers.  Most will, but you might want to double check.  I just had to supply a container with and I have to bring home all the soiled dipes each day (obviously).

Also, in terms of your hubby, my husband was on the fence too but since we've switched, he has become a fan.

Also, for examples on how to fold just go to youtube.  Here's one that I found.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL54-C0u2bg&feature=player_embedded

    Good luck!

  • Congrats on thinking about cloth diapering! We've been doing it since day 2 and have loved it!

If you have questions about your dipes or want to know more, lurk a little or ask questions on the Eco-Friendly Family board or check out the EFF blog....lots of helpful ladies over there.

    Good luck!

  • Not a stupid question at all.

Youtube has a ton of videos on the different prefold folds. Try some out and see what works best for your LO.

Thirsties and Bummis covers are pretty self-explanatory. Just put on over the prefold and velcro snug.

Highly recommend this site, she has an entire section dedicated to CDing 101, with videos that show how to put everything on. Have your H watch some of the videos, that's what got mine on board!
