3rd Trimester

Today is my shower...and I'm depressed...

I bought this cute outfit a few weeks back for my shower. A pink sleeveless shirt and some white dress capris...the shower is an outdoor cookout. Well needless to say this awesome devil of a severe PUPPS rash has consumed my skin from armpit to wrist on both arms and from lower belly to both ankle bones!!! It is so incredibly UGLY and looks like I have a disease. I get soooo freaking tired of having to explain to people that it is a PREGNANCY rash...not posion ivy....not anything in the least bit contagious to you (I work in Pediatrics at the hospital so I have to double explain to the parents of the children I am touching) Then from there is goes on to..."Wow! I've never heard of that before"....really...okay thanks? I mean I think I'm going to print some flyers up and pass them out to anyone that looks at me from now on.

Anyways...back to the shower...It's outside and its supposed to be NINETY-FIVE degrees today. Heat makes this mess 100 millon times worse! So therefore...I am thinking I am going to still wear my sleeveless shirt and have to wear some black pants to try and keep my legs covered (They are the worst currently) Oh...and Im going to have to figure out a way for me to stay inside most of the time without looking rude...we are putting the gift table inside so thats a reason!

*Sigh*....Let the explaining begin....

Re: Today is my shower...and I'm depressed...

  • Sorry to hear about your pregnancy rash... it sounds uncomfortable and mostly like a pain in the butt because you get so many questions.  I was going to suggest a cute long sleeve cardigan to cover your arms but if its 95 degrees that is clearly not a good idea!  Just try to put on a smile and have a standard response when people ask you.

Don't be depressed, your hope is to have a healthy baby right?  (per your screen name)  In the big picture this is small potatoes...  yes it will be annoying but you will probably have a good time and it'll be fun to celebrate your baby at a cookout with your friends and family!

My first thought was, "Good Lord, who would have a baby shower outside in the 95 degree heat?!?"  But then I remembered it probably wasn't your choice, and you have to be grateful and gracious and all that, yada yada.  But still!

Who would have a baby shower OUTSIDE IN THE 95 degree heat????

You have my permission to have some sort of "Attack" (real or feigned) and get yourself inside to some AC and make them come to you!!!

GOOD LUCK, and screw the haters on the PUPPS.  Wear as little as possible, and have other people explain for you.  You're the star of the show today, it's your party and you can do whatever the heck you want to (or don't want to).

Stay cool for the baby's sake!!!!  It's not worth it to overheat and end up spending tonight in L&D for observation (or worse).

  • That was mu first thought too "who the heck plans a baby shower outside when temps have been in the 90's"??? I say wear what your comfortable in, they can suck it.
  • I vote for you staying inside. I dont think that is rude at all. I bet most of the women at your shower have been pregnant before so they know how hot it is!! I live in Austin so I feel your pain. I have been feeling overheated for a month now. Just stay hydrated and cool! :)
  • I doubt even the NON-pregnant ladies will want to spend time outside in 95 degree heat.  I second the "feeling a little faint" notion for telling people why you are staying inside in the AC.  Drink lots of cold liquids!
  • Oh yikes! Any chance they can change a few things around so that you can be inside most of the time? If I were you I would run to Target and buy one of those long dresses (much cooler and comfy than pants) and maybe a little cotton short sleeved button up cover up, then only the rash on your lower arms will be showing. And it will a lot less stuffy than pants! GL and I hope you have fun anyway, all of those cute baby things should cheer you up!

Ugh!  A rash and heat does NOT sound fun!  But the shower sounds great!  You'll have a good time regardless and hopefully get some nice things for baby.

I had a rash early on (not the kind you have) and it was awful.  Certain parts still itch like crazy (my elbows and legs) and people are always asking me about it.

This!  Maxi dress all the way.  Have a good time at your shower!

  • Sorry to hear about the PUPPS, I had it for the last 4 weeks of my preg. See if you can just stay inside as much as you can.
