My son is a crappy solids eater (for me -- he will eat anything and everything at day care). He does like to feed himself, so I can get him to eat a little pancake, mac n cheese and sometimes veggies in his highchair. But he'll only eat maybe 7-10 items (very small diced). He would probably eat a whole container of Puffs, though, if I would let him.
This doesn't seem like nearly enough food and I wonder how I'll ever get him off formula down the road. But when he's done, he's done. He swats my hand away, turns his head, throws his food.
Ideas?
Re: How much finger food at a time?
My son, who's very close in age to yours, is the same exact way. I'm trying to not push it and to trust him to know when he's done. I read that it can be detrimental to try to force them to eat more than they want to because they need to know when they are full and to stop eating, etc.
So my only advice is to not stress too much over it now. They change so quickly, and even though they may not eat much now, in a week or a month things could be quite different! Just try to make sure he's eating 7-10 healthy items and change it up a lot to cover all the right nutrients. I'm sure he'll be just fine.
