Re: Washing baby clothes with OxiClean

  • We wash all of DD's clothes with Oxyclean. We didn't use it on the first load though, we only use it now to keep stains out.

  • Not too sure about that. We use Dreft.
  • I don't see any reason to do it when you're pre-washing everything before the baby comes, but if there's a stain or something it's fine to do.  They do make a Baby Oxiclean if you're worried (which is recommended for use on cloth diapers, if you want to use an oxygen cleaner, FYI)
  • I use the "free and clear" version of Oxyclean

  • No I wouldn't use it in the initial cleaning.  I have one outfit that I got dirt cheap from Bon-Ton because it has the smallest of spots and I bought another outfit from a consignment sale, these are the only things I'd wash in it before hand.

Thanks for the info about the cloth diapers.  I was going to post that next on the EFF board.

  • We just wash our LO's clothing like our clothing.  Nothing special.  I tried the OxyClean stuff, but it didn't get all the stains out or make C's clothing any whiter than if I used bleach.  If you're worried about having residual soap leftover in their clothing, then have your washer do an additional rinse cycle.
  • I just got Baby OxiClean, I figure if they make a baby version they probably don't recommend the other version? But I think as long as you do an extra rinse it should be OK.
  • I do a pre-wash soak cycle with the oxiclean for babies and then run them through a regular cycle with Tide.?
  • I have just been using oxyclean on loads of baby clothes that have stains or lots of spit up or poo on them. I don't use it on every load.
  • I use it in every load of laundry, but then every load I do has baby spit up or poop or toddler food stains.  For clothes that are heavily stained I soak in a little basin with oxyclean for an hour or so before washing.  It gets out every stain I've had so far.
