3rd Trimester

Breech & Doc Intervention

My LO is breech at 34 weeks and doc told me that LO has two weeks to turn on his own, otherwise a male doctor will manually turn him.  Sounds painful!  Has anyone beyond 34 weeks(or with previous pregnancies)  had this done??

I'm praying LO turns on his own!!!

  • Try encouraging your LO to turn on his own. spinningbabies.com

  • I am just past 37 weeks, and my LO is breech, and my doc said by 38 we'll make the decision to either do the c-section or if we wanted to try and have the doc turn her. What surprises me is that it seems like doc isn't giving you the option if you want this done. Our doc said its up to us, and 36 weeks seems a little early, when the baby can turn well after that. Sorry, its just my opinion, and I would ask the doc if they had to try and turn LO at 36 or wait longer, if that what you want to do, I don't want to make any assumptions about you!

  • find a chiropractor who knows how to do the "Webster Technique" (google to find out more)!  it gives the baby more room to move around and they often flip.  i've been going for my posterior presenting baby and now it hasn't stopped moving around.  i have a friend who was breech and did this and the baby flipped after only 1 or 2 visits.

if you're in ATL and needs some recs, contact below and PM me.

  • My doctor won't perform versions anymore- he believes they are too much of a risk and don't work enough of the time to justify it. I did just find a chiopractor who does the webster technique but it maybe too late for me- c/s will be next week.

You are very insightful.  I saw the doc yesterday for the first time (the practice has you see all of the docs in the OB practice at least once)...and I had bad vibes about her. She was very abrupt with DH and me and seemed rush and didn't let us ask a lot of questions.  And when we did ask questions, she seemed distracted and hurried.  Oh, how I pray that I don't have her as the doc in the delivery room!  I will ask about waiting until 38 weeks (or going the option of a c-section).  I really am nervous about having a doctor turning the baby.   I am prayerful that he will turn on his own.

  • I had a version with this pregnancy. I was about 36 weeks. This is my 4th full term pregnancy, so my uterus is probably a bit more lax than a 1st timer, and I imagine that is the reason why it did not hurt. LO flipped right back to breech, and I panicked! I did not want a C-section! They wanted to refer me to a specialist then, and do another version, this time with the aid of ultrasound and terbutaline. I did not want the medication at all, because it's not even approved for use in pregnancy-it's for asthma! Insane! Well, I guess I got lucky, because when the Doc did the ultrasound, his little head was nestled right down in my pelvis where it was supposed to be. YAY! He has been head down since then, and I am 39 weeks now. I am very relieved. Your LO will probably turn on his/her own. 2 weeks is still plenty of time to turn. Oh! BTW, my back pain has been almost completely relieved too, since he turned. Good baby!
  • I'm just past 34 weeks and my baby has been breech or transverse (sideways). My doc doesn't seem too concerned just yet. She says baby will most likely turn on her own, but I'm still nervous about a c-section if she doesn't. Good luck to all of you ladies!!

Thanks for sharing your experience.  I just read about some exercises that I can do 2-3 times a day to help increase the chances that baby will turn!

Glad your LO is *headed in the right direction*!!   I have been having some major back pain too...I thought it was the bra.  Guess, it could be both the breeched position and the bra!

  • I had my 35 week appointment today & LO has been transverse breech since before 28 weeks.  There are varying success rates depending on the type of breech - for us if LO doesn't flip on her own we'll probably go the c/s route because the success rate of turning transverse breech at our hospital is less than 20% and my OB thinks she'd flip right back if it is successful so she'd want us to consider an induction following the successful procedure.  However, she is very supportive of it being our decision.

She's been promoting a vaginal delivery all along (when we had a low lying placenta at 18, 29 & 32 week u/s; a new cardiac issue at 32 weeks that may limit my time pushing and up until today's appointment our sideways baby.)

I'd recommend doing some research and for you & DH to discuss with another doc at the practice you feel more comfortable with!

    GL!

Thanks, Vonita.  I will definitely keep researching this. I do think I will schedule with another doc (thanks for that suggestion).

I appreciate all of the responses to my post!  You ladies are so supportive!  I'm so glad I found this Website!!
