I just booked DS's birthday party at a play place. Its a 2 hour block where all the kids will have unlimited play, cake, food and a toy to take home. Since this baby is due right around DS's birthday, I wanted something nice and easy.
The party is from 12-2pm. Food is provided for the kids, but not the adults. Would you order extra trays of food for the parents/adult family members, or not worry about it. They have snacks (chips and pretzels type things) or you can order fruit trays, wrap sandwiches, etc. I'm just wondering if its necessary, or is it tacky to invite people and only feed the kids?
I was thinking after the party our family could come back to our house and we could do a cookout or something later, but since its right at lunch time, the adults may be hungry too. WWYD?
Re: A birthday party WWYD...
I don't expect to be fed at a birthday party my child is invited to. You have the kids taken care of and I think that is fine. I think inviting family back for a BBQ is a great touch, if you're up for it.
If the parents are staying, I would make sure they are fed too.
I wouldn't expect to be fed at a child's party, but I know a lot of people do.
We went to a similar birthday party for a 2-year-old and my DS is 3. We stayed for the 2-hour party. Pizza, juice boxes, and chips were handed out to the kids. There was extra cake for the adults. I thought it was bizarre.
If you don't plan on feeding the parents, don't have a party at lunch time, unless it's a drop-off party, IMO.
He's turning 5. I assume most of the kids parents will stay as they will all be younger than L (he is the oldest in his class this year).
I understand what you are saying. I've been to this place for a birthday party for the past 2 years, and nothing was provided for the parents. There is a cafe for them to get something if they want it, but since I knew that I ate before going. And I don't want to wait until 3PM to start the party, nor do I want to do it at 9AM. I'll probably just get a sandwich wrap tray and the chips and pretzels for the adults.
I don't either, but I wasn't sure if I was the only one...
Well, you know there are the zealots who have an opinion and expectation on everything!
"I" dont expect to be fed at any party, but I would defnitely expect the kids to be fed at a time slot of noon to 2. Is this at Jungle Java? If so, the adults can always order from the menu.
The bbq afterward is a nice touch, but not necessary. It really depends on how you are feeling. :-)
Yep, its at Jungle Java. And I the kids will be taken care of. I just feel kinda bad if I don't offer something for the adults, as his parties have always been with food for everyone. But this is the first year of us doing it somewhere else.
And if we BBQ afterwards, it will most likely be my dad or DH doing the work. I know I won't really be up to it, but hopefully this baby will be here and I have lots of family coming into town for L's birthday and to meet M.
Ya, I was thinking of doing Preston's at a different place this year too. Maybe Castaway Cafe. IDK. Having it at home is becoming more and more work...lol.
