If you test 1 hr. after eating

What do they want your # to be?  W/ DS I had a different dr. and they had me test 90 minutes after w/ a goal of 90 morning fast and 120 after meals.  The new dr for this pg wants me to be at 120 one hour after meals.  I was also put on reduced activity by my OB last week to avoid PTL again so I only get 1/2 hr walk per day.  Well my numbers are crazy.  I met w/ the GD dr today and I don't go back until 7/27 (which I thought was strange).  They are having me call weekly w/ my numbers, gave me insulin and if need be, they will tell me my dose over the phone.  Any thoughts??  TIA!

Re: If you test 1 hr. after eating

  • I test one hour after meals with a goal of 140.  If I don't make that, my two hour number should be under 120- so your numbers seem kind of strict, but I have seen them frequently on here so you are definitely not alone.

My guess is once they "see" your first week of numbers, they are going to have you come in sooner, but I wouldn't feel comfortable just talking over the phone.  If I were you, I'd request an appointment sooner just to feel better.

  • I also have a goal of 140 one hour after meals, but there are definitely ladies with the 120 goal on here.  I'm surprised you don't see your doctor till 7/27 though because you should be going monthly anyhow.  I call my numbers in though and didn't have extra appointments until I started NSTs (due to being put on meds).

    good luck!

My goal is under 120 at 1 hour after meals.  With my son, I was managed by my OB and her goals were under 140 after 2 hours.  My endocrinologist is definitely more strict.  It's challenging for me, especially getting my fasting numbers down to under 90, but we're working on it.
  • I test 1 hour after meals and I have to be below 120, below 90 for fasting. I also see my endo or endo NP every other week.
  • I test 1 hour after meals and have to be below 130, below 90 for fasting. If your numbers are already kind of crazy I think I'd call them before the week is up to see what they'd recommend. For what it's worth, after my initial meeting with the diabetes nurses and peri, unless there's a need, I won't see them again. Just phone check-ins weekly.

  • My numbers need to be under 140.  I'm not on meds, I call in my numbers each week, and the GD doctor didn't want *any* follow-up appointments.  I had to schedule a follow-up apt with her to discuss whether I could go until 42 weeks. I also never heard back from her about my growth u/s either.  So I'll talk to her about that too I guess.

  • After 1 hour, my numbers are supposed to be between 60-80 fasting, and 120 after meals.  I fax my blood sugar numbers in to my peri once a week, but I don't have any appointments to meet with him again.  My OB looks at my numbers as well at each appointment.

  • I have to be under 90 fasting and 120 after 1 hour. It's really hard to reach the 120 and I have to do less than half the amount of carbs that the dietician recommended in order to hit it, but my peri said that it's my choice, either cut carbs or go on insulin. I also asked my OB why so many people here have a goal of 140 after an hour and she said that was an older guideline and that the 120 was actually more predictive of the effects GD could have on the babies.  I also have twins, so maybe that has something to do with it too.

  • My doc is uber strict and I have a goal of under 110, 1 hour post meals... its very hard to do.

  • Thanks everyone for the responses.  I had a growth scan today but my OB wasn't there.  I see him in two weeks so I will see what he says.  I should mention also that this time I have way more many carbs so when I call in my numbers, I'd like to check to see if we can lower my carb allowance first to see if that helps.  Thanks again!

  • I am type 1,but I think the goals are pretty similar.I am supposed to be under 95 fasting, under 140 at one hour or 120 after 2.Even those numbers are difficult-I can't imagine having a goal of 110 after meals!
