anyone's dc have "bottle rot" in their teeth?

My daughter has a little brownish spot at the top of both of her fang teeth. It's not a huge spot but doesn;t come off with a toothbrush. She took a bedtime bottle for longer than she should have. Now I feel horrible b/c I feel like this is my fault. We brush her teeth, but she's not too fond of it. She wants to do it herself. So I never can brush for longer than probably 30 seconds at a time. Anyway she is scheduled for a pediatric dentist but not til the end of july. Does anyone know if this is fixable or painful? She doesn't seem to complain at all. I know these are just baby teeth, but I don't want her to be in any pain or have unhealthy teeth.

  • DS had this and I thought it was rot.  I brought him for his first dentist appt last week, and it was just tartar.  they scraped it off.  his teeth are bright white now!!!

I would just bring her to the dentist early to get it scraped.

    Good luck.

  • I asked my cousin what it looked like. She's a pedi hygenist. She said the teeth are translucent & grayish looking. I've had what you describe on my fang teeth & it was what PP said. Just tarter.

Thanks. That really makes me feel better. It's definitely not grayish...it's more just kind of whitish/light brown.

  • I used to work at a daycare years ago, and one of the little girls had 'bottle rot'. It was on her front teeth and it was REALLY bad. So bad that they had to pull both those teeth when she was like 3 or so, I think. If it's just a spot and you brush her teeth,  it's probably just the tarter like PPs have said. They literally looked brownish and like there were cavities on them.

  • My 9y/o had bottle rot in his two front teeth. The dentist had to pull them. His bio-mom put him to bead with juice =(

You can take him to the dentist to check it out to be sure. Ask about having your LO teeth sealed or bonded.

  • What you described sounds like tartar.  I bet your dentist can scrape it off!
