Disappointing 39W5D dr's appointment...

Just got back and still no progress :( It has been like this for the last 3 appointments and although I'm happy because he is healthy and not getting too big- I can't help but be a little bummed because I really thought I've made some progress. Oh and my MIL still wants to come this weekend just because. Indifferent Thanks for listening!

Re: Disappointing 39W5D dr's appointment...

  • I went into labor a few days after my doctor's appointment where I was told that the baby was still pretty high up even though I'd been at 1 cm for 3 weeks. We even talked about the possibility of an induction if the baby didn't come on his due date.

You could go into labor any time but since it seems like you're anxious and excited to meet your baby, I hope that it's real soon! Good luck! Enjoy your last few nights of newborn-free sleep!!

This happened to me too. I had not dropped AT ALL and I went into labor anyway. I heard that some women don't drop before going into labor, so I guess I was one of them. I even had an appt the day I went into labor and we had no idea that I was going to go into labor that day, so you never know! Either way, the most important thing is that your LO is healthy so enjoy this time of rest and your LO will be here before you know it!

  • Mine was like that on Thursday, and I went into labor on Sunday night.

Just remember, it's a lot easier to take care of him while he's inside you!  Enjoy your time :)

  • Aww I can understand feeling disappointed - by that stage you just want.him.out. I vote that you go places where you wouldn't want your water to break (see a movie, go out to dinner, shopping, etc) because then it's sure to happen - plus you'll have a good time while you wait! Stick out tongue

  • Thanks ladies, for your encouraging words! I feel a lot better now, I was just worried about being induced, etc. My OB told me about a restaurant that is just down the street from me that has a salad that is rumored to induce labor.

Don't know if its going to work, but I guess it is worth a try at this point  :)

  • i'm sorry. i think towards the end we are all just READY to be done.  i was the same way.... every single week they'd check me and say i was completely closed and not effaced...it wasn't until i started having contractions are 40weeks exactly that i was "a fingertip" dilated...and even then they sent me home... i was scheduled for induction at 40w2d but we rescheduled for 40w5d to give her more time...on the eve of 40w1d my water broke, after doing some nipple stimulation earlier in the day... i labored through the night and she ended up being born at 40w2d, my original induction date!! even after my water broke and they checked me i was only 1cm dilated.  so you can definitely go from barely being dilated to active labor very quickly!!! hang in there, and try to enjoy your last days of sleep while you can :)
